Background
Full Name : Têthian Haerontir
- The name is Sindarin, though named in Valinorian Quendi tradition due to his father’s lineage
- Father-Name (Ataressë) Têthian [The Way Appears] (tê – ‘Way’, thia – ‘to appear’, [n])
- Mother-Name (Amilessë Apacenyë ) Haerontir [Distant Watcher] (haeron – ‘distant’, tir – ‘to watch’)
[OOC - The following is a passage from a written work done In-Character]
Of the Haerontir, much is known by all who yet dwell in fair Imladris, between the unforgiving bleakness of the Lone Lands and the imposing majesty of the Hithaeglir, or Misty Mountains in the tongues of Men. Exceedingly bright eyes are the first things to note by most and the visions of foresight they see are as visible and clear as if they sat before him. This was a gift from his mother, Cylestel who was a seer of the Teleri who, upon his birth, knew that he had inherited her talent. Thusly, she gave him an Amilessë Apacenyë or ‘Mother-Name’ in the ancient tradition of his father’s people. Haerontir, the distant watcher was how he would be known to some, and as she foretold, that sight would ever guide many of his councils to those of either Men or Elves.
Most often he speaks with a kindly demeanour though rarely does he speak frivolously, and all words he offers contain value therein, be they of mirth or of foreboding. Few reckon the power of words as he, whether they be spoken, written or sung in song. Among those, the written word he cherishes most, for the chief share of his love is for books and tomes of all ages. He possess no mind to study them as a Lore-Master or scholar, but rather his appreciation is for the record itself, so he is likened closer to a collector, librarian and chronicler. He is rightly entrusted with scribing and cataloguing many of the works within Lord Elrond’s own library, so it is that Têthian is surrounded by that which he most praises. Moreover, he scribes and illuminates many of these tomes so that the copies may be taken to Duillond on the borders of Lindon and shared with Cirdan’s people in preparation for the coming days when the Eldar shall sojourn to the West and leave these lands.
Being a chronicler, his past is well recorded, largely by his own hand. He was born amid the holly trees of Eregion, in once strong Ost-i-Edhel before either the forging of the Great Rings or the onslaught that later came to claim dominion over them. Working with a cunning hand and a keen eye, Têthian is a living testament to the skill with which those people worked precious metals and gems to make them magnificent to behold. But when darkness shrouded that land he with his kin followed Lord Elrond, who had been sent hither by Ereinion Gil-Galad; High King of the Noldor in Arda, to the cloven valley which in the fulfilment of time, would be a bastion of elvendom amid the fading of the Firstborn and the rise of Man. And its name was Rivendell.
So it is that Tethian may oft be found amid the tomes of either Rivendell or Duillond, transporting valuable works of the present and past. At times he may carry messages of some import or news between the two lands, speaking of good will or dark foretelling between mighty houses. Still at other times, he may move to investigate or reclaim lost works so that these people may be further enriched through their wisdom. However, one thing has been his wont since the battles that fell upon his homeland. He vowed long ago that never again would he would wield sword against any, for a doom of evil vision has haunted him on this, and no other word has been uttered of it. So, for the sake of protection has he studied also forms of combat without weapon, in the manner of Tulkas of the Valar, whose weapons were his hands and no other would he take. Armed with those quick hands, a quick mind and the power of his voice does he move and has thus far endured.
Such is the word pertaining to Têthian Haerontir and more may yet be written as this tale lies not only in the past.
