Keeping off the Roads

in

Sarnai rode at a swift canter through a Bree-land meadow under the evening sky. Steering her horse with her legs alone, she leaned forward in the saddle as she studied the bloodied piece of leather in her hand. It's a map, she realized, which answers a few questions.

So much had happened in only a few hours' time!

First the girl, Lissilana... she had been passing through Combe to restock on a few supplies, only to run across a heated argument. In the end, she found herself thrust into the role of judge, and no-one has ever accused me of having good judgment before, only to eventually step in to stop some sort of criminal from doing something unspeakable and help a strangely-clad watchman make an arrest.

Taking the woman who was first injured to the home of a healer, she encountered a new 'friend' along the way, and after some cryptic conversing, entered the house. There, she explained the situation to her 'friend' and offered her assistance to Lissilana as a teacher and provider of advice - where did that come from? I've never been a mentor - when Skufr stumbled in, bleeding from the armpit, and changed everything.

He seemed to say that Sarnai was in danger, pursued by tall Men in black clothing astride horses. After a few farewells, trying to make sure that Skufr would survive, Sarnai left with the piece of leather in hand, granted to her by the wounded dwarf. She mounted rapidly and rode away, fearing the thought of the trouble on her heels falling upon the house of someone who had so kindly attempted to save her compatriot's life.

Alright, map... show me the way to Cynraede. I need to know what's going on here.

As the setting sun streaked the sky with bright colors, Sarnai pressed her heels into her horse's side and dropped lower in the saddle as the mare began to gallop. She had a long way to ride.
