Happenings in Bree

Almost two weeks now it has been since my return to Bree. And besides a few things, nothing much has changed. I will soon begin my watchman duties once more, as my leg has seen improvement. Though it is still a pain, and I’ve had to force myself to stay in bed most of the time. I hate not being able to do anything…

The hardest thing I’ve had to do when I came back though, harder than even enduring my leg, was visiting the jailhouse. I knew I had to eventually go there, sooner than later, to explain the long, unexpected absence of Calagand and I. Tough work, if I do so say so myself. It would have been easier if Cal came with me and explained his part, but he felt that he needed to stay in Draugmir for a time, and I didn't get around to asking why. And we couldn't have possibly told them what we were doing before we left for the barrows. As they wouldn't have allowed it, at least if we told them the truth of what we were really doing. So, in short, what I ended up explaining to Dawn Appledore was the half-truth. That the Captain and I both had some important business to immediately attend to together. I knew it required a realistic story for her to be convinced. And so, I whipped up a little somethin' beforehand. And it worked quite well!

Now I think it is time to explain the most unexpected thing that happened. Well... at first it was unexpected. I was at the pony the other night, talking to a couple other fellow watchers. Qais and Morwinel were their names, the former of which I had already knew. It was in the middle of our talking when an all-to-familiar figure made his appearance, once more speaking words into my mind with lips remaining still. I did my best not to act surprised in front of the others, and so I simply gave the elf a few glances before returning my attention to where it was before. Not long after, I looked back to find him gone, not even noticing him leaving. Once the chatting, drinks, and food was done, I left the tavern as well…
