Laurenia Uircalen is the one and only child of house Uircalen (or Evergreen, Uir meaning ever and Galen meaning green in Sindarin).

 

Laurenia is at present a meager 244 years of age, having just reached a time in her life when the Grey Havens of Lindon, which is where she hails from, hold nothing new or exciting. Some travelling should prove interesting and a welcomed break to the sound of sea gulls and clucking of waves.

 

Having been born to a family of fishers, her father and mother, Melvalan and Lauranathalas, being the owners of five relatively small fishing boats, she was brought up with the intention of joining them on the calm waves and fishing.

 

One particularly stormy evening laurenia wanted to experience the waves and strong winds from the sea, so she decided to borrow one of the boats and thus experience the storm at its centre. What she went through out there on the waves, was a formative experience that she never thought she'd experience. The storm picked up much more strength and power than she had expected and being out on the sea at night in a thunderstorm is never a smart idea.

 

Needless to say she was cast from her boat and very nearly joined it on its journey down to Ulmo, only narrowly through sheer luck, or perhaps the benevolance of Ulme, escaped the dangers of the storms and reached the shore safely.

 

The loss of the boat was not a great loss to her parents, as they were understanding to her wanting to experience the terrors and wonders of Ulmo's rage first hand and were very interested in learning more about her experiences.

 

Hearing the way that she explained and related the story of what had happened on the sea, they saw potential in Laurenia. She was destined for more than being a simply sailor and fisher, she had the gift of story telling and that need to find out the truth and experience new things that she was enrolled into one of the local runekeeper schools in the Grey Havens. Being a prime candidate for their teachings.
