Failure

It took Ash a long while to get back to Bree after the failed rescue attempt. Her sister's limp body caused her face to be overcome with anguish and worry. "I cannot lose her again." She was grateful to Allyster, nay, deeply indebted to Allyster for his sacrifice. Without him, they would likely be captives as well. And Carria would likely be dead by now. "Stay safe, Allyster. I will come back for you all. Stay alive." She worked hard to keep her mind off of Briony, to no avail. Carria had seen Briony, apparently naked, calling for Wulf and coming out of his tent. "Does Briony wish to be saved? Is she...is she now a part of Wolfshead's followers?" Ash swallowed hard, not wishing to dwell on it any further. Her sister groaned, causing Ash to check if she was concious again. She was not. Ash sighed and urged the horse to go faster. She had to get home so she could tend to her sister's wound better. Every noise of the woods caused her to jump...something which did not happen often for Ash. The woods were a welcome friend in past years. Now, they offered only vague threats of surrounding sneers. Ash could not hide her fear and thankfully, she didn't need to. Nobody needed her mask right now. All she needed, was to remain strong and press home. Fortunately, she made it home safely, with little incident. It was one of the few instances where she was glad she did not live inside the town of Bree, so she did not need to tarry for questioning Watchers. She carried her sister inside quickly, glad that Briony's sisters were asleep. Juniper woke up for a moment, looking at them with confusion in her eye for a second, then falling asleep.

Ash carried her sister into her room, set her on the bed, and began to tend to the wound. She would get no sleep for a while.
