North Downs: Rest

"You know what I love?" The voice mused. "Time. It is such a strange thing, isn't it? For me, right now, time never passes. I have all the time in the world but for you, cousin, time creeps by ever so slowly."

He grunted and pulled the cloak closer to himself to ward back the cold. "You name me a cousin now, fiend?"
-"Of course. All of you are my cousins. Isn't it good to have family again, Rhaug?" A haunting melody played quietly within the back of his mind.
"Be quiet. You are no family of mine." He spat out with irritation.
-"You can be so cruel. Such has been proven lately, hasn't it? It was rather entertaining. You are so easy to be put into a mood. I strike one cord and all that hidden frustration comes flooding forth. Have to admit I was right, about her. About them." Another cold breeze brushed him by, and he drew his hood lower over his brow.

"Now get some rest. I can't have your mind completely dead. So go on now. Rest and forget about them, just like they will forget about you. The others did."
The voice silenced and its place the haunting song grew louder. His eyes shut and he felt his heart sink at the sorrowful tune the instrument played as if it was softly weeping.
It did not matter how he wanted to resist and refuse to allow this voice, this fiend, to control his pattern of rest, he could not. Within moments he felt his consciousness slip away, his body and mind falling into a deep slumber.
