The Fall

“Come!” Seronaer cried in Sindarin, urging on the Eldar as they hurried past, “Quickly along the passage!”

The fleeing civilians ran passed her along the mountain pass, clutching what few belongings they could. The young children were crying, as were many of the parents. To their rear, the great roars of dragons and mocking cries of orcs and balrogs filled the air.

Seronaer stood with her spear and shield, clad in her white armour emblazoned with the golden flower of the house she fought for. Blood smeared her face and her weapons, and he shield was partially burnt. She had been lucky to escape the dragon fire, some of her closest friends though, had not.

The last of the fleeing people ran by her, the golden-haired couple who were now the lords of the Gondolindrim, the tall Tuor and beautiful Idril with their son. Seronaer fell in with the guard behind them running along with her husband Hithfaeron and their two children. Glorfindel took the rear of the guard, coming along the rear. Seronaer took a moment to look out at her home, the great white Gondolin that had been so like her childhood home of Tirion upon Túna. There it stood, burning and crumbling beneath the dragons, balrogs, and orcs.

She remembered how she felt, fleeing her first home, and ice she had watched her parents die upon. “Never again.” She whispered softly to herself.

She began running with the rear guard once more, keeping in line with them when there was a great roar behind them and a foul balrog was upon them with a horde of orcs. Seronaer about turned and charge the orcs, fighting fiercely to defend her people.

The battle raged, Glorfindel valiantly holding off the Balrog as his company fought the orcs, and she witnessed him thrust his sword into the belly of the fallen Maiar and she cheered.

Her joy turned to dust for as the Balrog was cast over the cliff she saw it grasp her lord by the hair, and pull down as well. She heard the cries of her people, and together they threw back the orcs, slaying them brutally. Long then they fled, making their way from that fell place as quickly as possible. She still had her family, but she had lost a great many friends.

It was a fell day for the Gondolindrim, a day she would never forget.
