OOC:
To everyone who participated in my small open-ended roleplay scenario: I appreciate your participation and I hope it added a bit of interest to your regular Archives browsing.
I closed the survey once my post fell off the front page and this was the final result:
50% were in favour of a miraculous delivery, which also means that 50% of you had understandable caveats. I suggested a coin toss to break the tie, but Ekoko threatened digitally emoted harm if I didn’t give her the letter and I’ve learned not to argue with her.
Special thanks to the two folks who left thoughtful comments, which I did carefully consider within the framework of my character’s story:
To the person who suggested that the letter be tacked to the yellow tree in Chetwood so that another interesting visitor can visit Bernie: although I (hopefully) have plans to work that particular tree into future RP, random interesting visitors are welcome so long as they don’t mind the buzzing bees. Bring beer or sweets for best results.
To the person who suggested that he embark on a ‘quest’ of sorts, even going so far as Rivendell and beyond to find this elf maiden: This was an interesting idea that I toyed with in my head. But in the end, for purely OOC reasons (namely, that I already have a wandering character that I write about) I decided that Bernie should for now stay a homebody, which is probably truer to his character anyway. Perhaps in the future.
I will not be writing about how the letter came to be delivered as that is not Bernie’s tale to tell, but know that it was managed in game via roleplay.
With all this said and at the risk of extending this overly much, the player of Ekoko suggested something to me that I thought was a fantastic idea. What if there was a community-decided “choose your own adventure” style campaign, where all major decisions were crowd-sourced and the story completely driven by it? I loved the idea of it. It’s brilliant.
I also strongly feel that it would need to be as lore-accurate as possible, and I am not nor will ever be an armchair Tolkien scholar. So I’m offering the idea for this project to the people in the wider community to possibly take up and run with; if I can help in some small way, feel free to shoot a message.
