The sound of the whistles, just before the dawn, made the folk that lived close to the North Gate of Bree freeze in their beds and don['t stir for any reason, even the guard leaned against the wall in the darkness and waited. He could hear a thundering sound from the other side approaching, then the neigh of a horse and everything stopped. His heart almost stopped when he heard a door closing after the loud bang on the gate, but he didn't even think of opening it, the thundering started again, but this time leaving. He waited and when the first rays of sun appeared on the horizon he heard some weeping and opened the door.
In front of the large gate was lying a young woman, covered in blood and weeping, he knew her and she wasn't as she was when he last saw her. The who of Bree saw that when the man escorted her to the Crafting Hall and to her husband who was always there at dawn. After helping her to get up and help her regain her consciousness the guard took her where her man was working and the whole Bree was watching that woman, two weeks ago she was seen pregnant with her second baby, now she was pregnant no more and covered in blood. Ern dropped his tools and ran to her side, throwing a piece of cloth that he found next to him from a tailor, he wrapped her arms around her and she started to sob.
-He took it, I didn't even see if it was a boy or a girl, he took it, he took our baby!
She buried her face in his shoulders and cried, Ern held her tightly, trying to hide his tears by pressing his face against her head, he couldn't believe that their unborn child was gone, he couldn't understand it. Who, why, why...
-How did you get here? a voice asked from somewhere around them, Aggy replied muffled by not moving from where her face was kept.
-They held me somewhere and we were moving, I was dizzy. He cast a spell on me... Many spells.
In the sound of spells many people stepped back, afraid that she might be cursed but the braver ones stayed where they were, looking at the two and the sadness of the family.
-I saw it... Just for a brief moment, it cried... And he killed it... I couldn't move, I couldn't do anything, I was under his magic... His foul magic... I was I who should have died!
-No! Don't say that...
