A letter to Manadhlaer, the Lady ot the house of healing, Bar-en-Vanimar

A letter is delivered to the house of healing, addressed to Lady Manadhlaer, in the last week of the month Gwirith.

It may not be as elegantly written as one of her own, but the flowing handwriting of Ealendil in the form of the Tengwar common to Doriath of old, is quite distinguishable.

Dear Lady Manadhlaer

When you read this I am already well under my way west, and in good company. The letter was written in haste, I am sorry that it could not be timelier in responding to your own, but too many things crowded upon me as the time of departure approached. I asked Lindir, whom I trust with such matters, to deliver it to you after we had left.

It saddens me to hear that your longing for the sea, sees no relief. Only one of Teleri descent could truly understand the power it holds sway over our hearts. You are dear to me, and your presence at our gatherings, whenever your duties permit, are precious to me. And my heart sings of joy at the thought of seeing you again. You ask for a pebble, a token of sweet Uinen and revered Ossë, but I would bring thousand upon thousand with me to you for the smallest hope it would ease your longing but a fraction.

Please my Lady, pray to Eru for my safe return, and that of any who accompany me. I hope to return ere most of the summer has passed.

The work I undertake in preserving our cultural heritage of music and prose I am sure my mother would have approved of, she always wanted me to follow in her calling, but the pull of my father’s side always took over, much to her frustration. My greatest regret is that I only now, after she has sailed, has come to truly appreciate all that she accomplished. Ach, I would have given so much to have discovered that sooner. I only hope that one day when we meet again, she may look upon me as an equal and not as her daughter.

Dear lady Manadhlaer, I remain forever your friend,

Colfinnien Ealendil Míresgaleth
