Neyaa's Notes - Caught in the Act

So, Aanya, is angry with me! At last she has taken the children into the village square and given me respite from the disgruntled looks and sarcastic comments. It must have been quite the shock returning last night to the sight that befell her. I do not think she picked her jaw up for several hours. I make no apologies, all said and done, it is my home, it happened and cannot be undone. Though it is not my intention to seem unkind, but there are worse things to stumble upon.

I cannot deny it has put a smile on my face as tired as I am, and I do not speak of my indiscretion, but because I feel some matters at least, were settled between Seaver and I.

He called early evening, as ever with a bottle of expensive rum in hand, I noted when he offered me some, there was not much left, it seems that he is drinking heavily again, not that one would notice as the man has a high tolerance to drink. He had sent word that he would visit once business matters allowed him to. Given the mountain of parchment I’m accustomed to seeing him buried beneath I was not expecting him so soon.

Things were a little awkward at first, but we quickly cleared up the matter of the broken window, and it would seem the bars he has had fitted are in reaction to a spate of recent burglaries. He suspects the culprit is the young street rat Dani, who was once involved with Basaran, the former Captain of The Bloody Dawn. There are many who would think Seaver has the right to cut off the thief’s hand, or turn her over to the Watch, after all, his men would expect him to make an example of her, having been caught pilfering not once but twice. But Nay, the man has much empathy for those on the alley, as do I, the alley was my home for a time, and also the home of a former lover of Seaver’s, Rannie. I oft wonder if Rannie was loved most out of all the women Seaver has been involved with? Her disappearance has certainly left its scars.

We conversed for many hours, and I am not sure if he would have imparted with as much had the bottle he brought not emptied and been replenished with brandy from my own collection. He was as guarded as ever, typically changing the topic if it nipped too hard, but I am well practiced at noticing such things and not pressing matters.

The man still bemuses me, his gaze fell to the flames in my hearth most of the night, and there was that awkwardness again, only this time I spoke out about it, for I do not want this to blight our friendship. And then there we were, in a fierce embrace, the likes that I cannot even record here on parchment even though it will end up on the fire. I fear a written account of our feverish tussle may cause this page to burn hotter than the flames themselves.

T’was then that Aanya walked in, to garments strewn about the floor, the bench tipped asunder and the two of us in the final throes…

To my surprise, he spent the night next to me, slept until late this morn, and left, a polite kiss upon my cheek, a polite smile and greeting for the astounded Aanya, and he was gone…

And I must busy myself too, horses do not tend to themselves, but there’ll be a skip in my step today. Many would find you most shameful, Neyaa Sunngifu!
