A quick trip to the Barrow Downs

Before this short tale begins, Aallan had in fact, met Kitowyn weeks before the actual trip into the Barrow Downs.  He saw her reading something intently, and peered over with interest.  Once she noticed him, she jumped a bit, feeling rather startled.  The two introduced themselves, and Aallan made an offer to her to find some Barrow scrolls.  However, she did not have money on her at the time.  Thus, Aallan allowed her to tag along to one Barrow for free.  He then informed her when she was ready to visit the place, she could find him at the Pony.

Weeks passed, as the offer was still available for Kitowyn.  One day, as Aallan was leaving the pony on his steed, Longfellow, he noticed her sitting at the fountain.  He reined his horse to stop at where she sat, and dismounted, asking her how she was.  Her being startled by the horse, told him she was well.  Aallan then restated his offer to go to the Barrow Downs.  She accepted, and mounted with him on Longfellow, since she had no horse of her own.  It took ten minutes in ride from Bree to the north entrance of the Barrow Downs, though the two made it regardless.  One thing to note though, Kitowyn was clinging to Aallan's cloak, rather than to his person as they rode.

Upon arrival to the northern two barrows in the haunted place, they both dismounted Longfellow, albeit with Kitowyn falling down.  Aallan of course, helped her back up to her feet.  Once they walked over the rest of the way to a rather large barrow, he made sure Longfellow was safe at the entrance, instructing him to stay put.  He then took out two halves of a sheet of paper and some cloth.  He ripped the halves into quarters of the original whole sheet, and wrapped the cloth around them, as to act as earplugs for whenever Aallan ventured into the Barrow Downs.  He gave two for Kitowyn's ears as well, instructing her to either hold his hand or stay close to him before she put both the earplugs in.

Entering the resting place of the dead was easy enough itself, though the deeper the two ventured, the more apparent the wights' attempts to lure them to their deaths became.  At the bottom, there were four stone containers, presumed coffins or otherwise.  Stopping at one container, Aallan could only slightly move the flat lid far enough to reach in and see what could be in there.  However, Barrow Candles are not uncommon in such tombs, and would obscure either Aallan's or Kitowyn's vision from time to time.  Luckily, in this stone box, there were scrolls covering the bottom of it, much to Kitowyn's delight, as she got out a blank parchment and charcoal.  However, things were not to remain so easy for long, as both Aallan and Kitowyn could feel something brushing their bodies.  Aallan was lucky to only have his legs and body affected, but Kitowyn on the other hand, had her face caressed by this unknown entity.  It soon began to pull her away toward the restless dead.  Aallan seeing Kitowyn slowly walking away from him, dropped four of the scrolls he grabbed, and went for her arm to stop her.  She took another step forward before he could forcefully get her to stop in her tracks.  Before the two finally left the accursed place, Kitowyn obtained a rubbing of one side of the ancient stone "library" where scrolls were kept.  Aallan put two of the scrolls he dropped onto his side, as he gave the other two to Kitowyn, who herself had grabbed plenty of scrolls to put into her backpack.

Thankfully, Longfellow was there to take them back to Bree.  Another ten minutes passed for the travelers to arrive in Bree.  Stopping at the entrance to Scholar's Stair, he made sure Kitowyn didn't trip while eagerly reading her obtained barrow scrolls.  Entering the archives, Aallan took the two scrolls on his side and put them on the table where Dalton stood.  He turned to give them both a nod goodnight and left the archives on Scholar's Stair, leaving Kitowyn and Dalton much to discuss over dinner.
