To Cauns of Bar-En-Vanimar

As other members of my company, which all luckily made it back from the "cave", have already given their report, here is mine with my thoughts and suspicions.

We did not encounter any resistance until quite near the entrance. Whole area was like under some vile corruption: forest itself had turned against us as trees themselves roamed in what ever madness. Also some cursed souls were awoke and in search of peace. We saw no living men at all.

As we left on this journey we expected to find a troll cave. What we found was wooden door which was quite new and made by the hands of men or skilled orc. Inside there were ruins of Old Kingdom of Arnor somehow devoured by the earth and mountains! The wooden door wasn't as old which I would like to point out. No guards near the entrance.

Soon after The Arrow proved their worth killing many orcs that we found lurking there. They had digged tunnels connecting ruined halls and rooms. What they were doing there we do not know. Looking for something? Mitrhrandir and old Bilbo found their swords of Old from troll caves near by but there were no trolls in these ruins but who knows what is left behind from the days of Arnor? Or were they just camping to join in forces with other enemy? Where did they come from we cannot say but they were not mere wild goblins.

Deep down we found fast moving water propably the same that flows in Bruinen
Master Vagnur's lantern proved most useful in the dark caves and ruins. I wish he would know that but I am aware that I cannot share all the details of our mission with him.

Atlast we found very large hall. In the old days it might have been inner ward of castle or some other huge building but now earth was as its roof and it reminded of Dwarven halls. There was some huge altar which was taller than I am and on top of it there were blood and bones, some weeks old. Infront of it on the floor there were huge scratch marks of some beast.

At the end of the hall there was huge doors, which unlike any other we saw were shut. Infront of it was mysterious relic, stone that stood steadily on the ground. Some strange encarvings were on it and our hearts were filled with unease and dread near it. There is my drawing of it on the other side of this letter. The door was shut and we weren't able to move it at all.

We decided to leave while our presence was still unknown to all manner of beast and devilry and more carefully than ever we sneaked our way out.
