Hide and Seek, The Adventure Begins

The portly Dwarf licked the end of his quill, dropped it into a well of dark ink then set it to parchment:

Good Dwimmer,

Business has been brisk!  Recently, one of those lanky Breelander fellows came into the the tradepost with a curious tale.

This fellow said that during his travels he learned of a cave that was rumored, with a wee bit of digging around, one could uncover a great deal of treasure!  He laughed about it and said that the legend also said that many go in the cave in search of this great treasure but noone return.

Naturally, being the curious sort I am, not to mention I cannot ignore adventure, I have decided to seek out this cave and see what treasures it might contain!  You must join me, my old friend!  Get your packs, let us be on our way!

"If Dwimmer only knew what was living in that cave, he'd never agree.  Best I hide that tidbit!" exclaimed the grey bearded Dwarf.  While roaring in laughter, Hoggs, signed his letter with a print of his thumb, folded the paper, stuffed it into an envelope then called for one of his tradepost workers.  After giving the young man the letter and a heavy pat on the shoulder, the Outfitter gave the lad instructions and sent him on his way to take the letter to Hoggstari's good friend, Dwimmer.

Dwarves can move quickly, if they so choose, but in this case, Dwimmer chose to take his time.  Nearly two months after the original letter and a great deal of urging by Hoggs, the reluctant Dwarf agreed to undertake the adventure, siting the only reason was to keep Hoggstari out of undue trouble.  Never foolhardy, yet always brave Dwimmer was the perfect counterpoint to the audacious nature of Hoggs.

Arrangements had been made for the two to meet on the south side of Frerin's Court at first light.  The friends were kitted and ready for the first leg of their long trek westward.  They would push through with very little resting other than for the sake of their goats needs.  The plan was to cross the bridge near Dulliond, through the Shire then onto the "land around the hill".  Once they reached the Breelands, they planned to stay at least one day in Bree to rest, drink, eat, drink more then look for a guide for the second half of their journey.

To be continued...
