4. Playing with Fire

Weeks went by as they went through the Trollshaws. There were less attacked by deer and more successful hunts. It was also a mundane period of travel as she had gone on this path a few times now. At times, Goat did the navigation as Cerriel would lean on his head and hum.

It was not until somewhere near the Redhorn Pass that something interesting happened. She and Goat had stumbled upon a caravan of Haradrim traders making their way north. Naturally, there was a brief exchange of bolts and spears at each other. Once she was out of bolts to shoot off, she began shouting at them. Then the caravan guards began throwing bottles with flames on them. Not wanting to be outmatched, the former sailor threw lit sticks back. Insults continued until they all realized that they set the forest on fire.

“Onward Goat, before someone begins trying to kill us again!” She shouted as she leaped into the saddle and gave Goat a kick. The Haradrim traders threw rocks at her before having to scramble and save their caravan.

Days later, she found the Great South Road. Tracking an old stonework road would make the journey easier for her and Goat. As the old saying went, it was smooth sailing from here to the beginnings of the White Mountains.
