Guide for visitors of the Mark
There are many stories and opinions told about who where those blond hunks on horses and fair maidens. A wanderer could find himself in quite a pickle if they are not knowledgeable about people of the Mark.
And here are some, of vital importance:
- Rohirrims never refer themselves as Rohirrims or Rohan. They would call themselves man of the Mark, or man of the Riddermark. Rohir (Rochir) is name given by Gondorians and elves and its sindarin word.
- We are illiterate, part runes that came from north and dwarves. And runes are used by few for burial mounds, woodwork or tapestry of grand pieces.
- Though we are not knowledgeable of westron letters, we are wise and carry in our memory many stories and lessons that have been told by the fire in our childhood.
- Yes, our banner is green field with white horse, but that does not mean every man of the Mark would wear green all the times or that every one has a maeras. Maeras were horses of only Kings stables and he was only permitted to breed them.
- We think that Lorien (Dwimmordene in out tongue) is Woods of the Witch and we are affraid of the elves and the Witch. It is bad omen to dream an elf or see one.
- As much we are not kind to foreigners we have good relations with our southern allies, Gondor. As also we are good with men of the Mirkwood, Wilderland and northern clans of Anduin (our ancestors).
- We do not travel much over the Misty mountains, and it is truly a rare very rare chance to see one on other side. Cause of language it is more believable one would ride north of the Mark or go south in lands of Gondor.
- There is a large lack of love between dwarves and men of the Mark that hails from age of Fram, when we lived in upper vales of Anduin.
- We prize our horses, and no you cant have one just like that if foregner.
- As white horses are of maeras breed, black horses are mostly stolen by the orcs in newer age.
- We love songs, mead, ale and stories. We are easy to laugh but our rage and wrath is untamable as released.
- Our strength is sword and spear, even in old age, it is great honor to die in battle and on horse.
- Women of the Mark are healers and treasurers of our history, seldom women decided to turn away from domestic life and ride with eored, and if they did it was great honor for her family to have one.
- We know of Bema, Foldewyn and Wyrd (Orome, Yavanna and The One, Fore-father), just as we respect our ancestors and value oaths given more then anything.
Thank you and travel safe!
