The remaining orc corpses were dragged onto the already sizable heap before they were burned, several hundred met their doom this day. The wooden stakes of their makeshift strong hold as fuel for the fire, any remaining filth will be washed away by the rains.
Even though I take great pride in our training and discipline I was still heartened by the minor casualties we took in this skirmish 8 Wardens bloodied but none had perished. I pondered a while as I watched smoke begin to rise, this was quite a bold move from our enemy no doubt feeling more confident in these ever dark times.
The four banners were now making ready to depart the battle outcome was favourable the only irritation was the escape of one of their commanders.
The Sun was setting as we quietly left the scene of the skirmish, there was no jubilation but quiet satisfaction in a job well done, everyone very mindful though that this would clearly not be the end of it.
Culir would likely disband his banner so they and he could resume their duties of watch. We will likely need them to venture further North to try and track our foe and possible origins, I do not envy them that task.
My thoughts then fell on the other banner commanders, Hallothel and Alfiriel both had conducted themselves impeccably. I would pity any foe that would face their banners, for they are now well and truly battle proven and decisive in their abilities.
It was good fortune that we happened upon the map, we are blessed to have the skills of Cirdamir whom helped make good sense of the discovery. And then there is Ephendir and Telepara whom will have banners waiting for them at Thamas Lorn upon their return with us.
There will be much to discuss with Hirgonui once back at Thamas Lorn, the recent quiet spell now shattered and now at the very least the Mithdirith will now be on full readiness for the foreseeable future.
