The season was Spring, and two brothers of Elven kind played in the yard. Gileryn and Galeryn were their names. The front door to their home had been left open to let the musty air out, and the fresh air in. Both brothers were young enough of age to not have many cares in the world, yet were old enough to leave half attended. The only worry they had was what game to play next. The current favorite game of choice being 'Elves and Orcs'.
Their Mother worked outside quite nearby, weeding the small garden of cooking herbs. She was fair of face as all elves are, and fiery of temper. Luiniel was her name. As the day wore on and Arnor set, she told her two sons , "It is getting dark, and the Greenwood less safe. Take your play inside and I will follow soon after to start supper."
Both Gileryn and Galeryn did as they were bid, and took their play inside. They only paused in their dashing to remove dirty shoes and leave them by the door. The young elves raced into their bedroom, sword sticks in hand and their loose dark hair flagging behind them.
Gileryn jumped onto the bed, about to declare himself the Azog The Defiler of Old, there was a noise! Ai such a noise it was that both children froze at the sound of such ferocity! Slowly, two pairs of elven green eyes peered beneath the bed and were beset with horror. A great smelly, snapping, slobbering, snarling creature was there! Evil yellow eyes, great long claws and a pelt of ink with stripes of ash!! A Warg!!!
Sword sticks forgotten, both children ran back outside to their mother as fast as their legs would carry them! They both cried, "Naneth! Naneth! There is a Warg beneath the bed! A real one!!!" Luiniel was angry at being disobeyed, and scolded her children greatly, "Ai! I said to take your play inside! Do as you are told! A good ellon will kill a Warg on sight if he can! Now go hunt your Wargs inside!!"
Gileryn and Galeryn went back inside as they were told with fear in their hearts. How would they fell such a beast?! Gileryn saw his Father's hunting knives on the mantlepiece in the living room and thought of an idea. He took the knives and told his twin, "Galeryn we must kill it! You lift the bed, and I will use Father's knives to fell it". Galeryn agreed this was a good plan.
The elf children slowly went back into the bedroom where low snarls could still be heard. They silently counted to three. Gileryn, at the ready with his Father's hunting blade. Galeryn, ready to lift the edge of the bed. One....Two.... Three! Galeryn lifted the bed with all of the strength he could muster, and the beast lunged at his brother! Before Gileryn had any chance to strike, Galeryn startled and dropped the bed with a great THUD!
The foul beast shrieked as the bed landed upon it's thick neck and both children jumped atop the bed in their fright. A loud CRUNCH, and the room went quiet. The weight of the bed and the children had been too much, and broke the beasts neck. Once they realized the beast was dead, Gileryn and Galeryn whooped and sang! They had done it together!! They felled the Warg!!
The victorious brothers pulled the beast's carcass from under the bed, and carried it out to their Mother. Luiniel had just finished gathering the rest of the herbs for dinner. She dropped every last one at the sight of her joyful twin sons carrying a dead badger. They shouted with glee, "Naneth! Naneth! We killed the Warg like you told us to!!"
Luiniel cried out, "AI!! Where did you find that beast?! How did you come to have such a thing?!" The twins proudly told their tale. "It was beneath the bed as we first told you it was!", said Gileryn. "We dropped our bed on it and felled it!", said Galeryn. Luiniel clutched at her racing heart, "My children that is a badger, not a Warg. I thought you to be playing your game when you told me of a Warg beneath the bed!! You both could have been badly hurt!"Neither elf child was entirely convinced the beast was a badger and not a Warg. For the battle had been a great one in their minds eye. When their Father returned from hunting, Gileryn and Galeryn told their tale and showed him the carcass. Laughing, he reassured his sons that it was indeed a badger. One month later saw Gileryn and Galeryn overjoyed with their first practice bows, carved by a proud Father.
