Path of shadow - Blade of retribution - Part 2

The fight had raged for several hours as the local Hill-men had gathered and ambushed those within the camp. Steel sang and crashed, arrows whistled and found their mark. The East-men had been pinned within their camp and unable to flee, though a sound filled with hills around them with something all to familiar to The Young Hunter.

He gripped his blade firmly and shouted to the others. "Hold fast! Shield wall form! Spears up, blades ready! Hold the line!" Pellam shouted as he picked up a shield to join the ranks, shoving himself behind a group and raising his shield to protect them from the hail of arrows that mercilessly pelted the wall.

The hooves sounded across the mountains along with shouts and screams of battle. Arrows splintered and pierced the shields Pellam, pressed his shoulder into his shield as the horde broke around them, spears and blades beating down upon the shields with furious assault.

The Hill-men behind them continued their onslaught of the East-men within the camp while the others tried to hold the wains. "Archers, ready! Do not let them around us or they will break the wall!" Pellam shouted, tossing his shield aside as another hill-man took his place before drawing his bow and readying an arrow.

Aedicus quickly snatched the child, positioning himself as a shield for the small boy. "Have no fear, you will be safe. Run, run and find your people!" He motioned for him to break for the clearing, watching as he ran to a shield bearer whom held his arms open to receive him. Not seeing the steel that quickly pierced his side as a familiar voice whispered in his ear.

"You have failed. No matter how many you and your bastard boy kill we will always outnumber you. We will always hunt you. There is no where you can hide, there is no where that you can run to where we will not be able to reach." Yilgtig grinned, tossing his body down and looking towards his new mark.

Pellam watched as Aedicus fell to the ground. His eyes staring up to him as their life seemed to slowly vanish. The young hunters heart felt sorrow only for a time, before his gaze was set upon Yilgtig and Bronylf whom soon joined him at his side. "He is not worth your time, I'll whip this whelp into shape." Bronylf scoffed and drew steel, tossing the scabbard upon the dirt while gripping his shield.

Pellam hefted the blade in his hand, his eyes set upon Bronylf. The two circled each other but for a moment before engaging. The two fought, steel meeting steel and wood as blades clashed upon each other and Bronylf's shield. The battle waging around them.

Bronylf had reached out, his armored hand gripping Pellams through tightly, his eyes watching the young hunters lips peel back in a smile before taking a small white egg and slamming it into his helmet. "You, fought for money. You fought to eat, for fame. I fought to live. I fought to protect those who cannot stand and do so for themselves."

Pellam reached down, grabbing his brother by the collar of his lamellar. The fine, white glass powder dusted his helmet and his skin, finding its way into his eyes and nose as blood began to trickle down from ihs face. "Should you dare to harm the ones I have sworn to protect again. Father as my witness, it will be the last thing you do." The Young Hunter Hissed and shoved him to the ground, moving back into the fray.
