Letter to Aldor II

Dearest Aldor,

I hope this missive finds you in good health and peace of mind, luxuries in these troubled times.  I am writing from Rivendell and it is most likely that I will not be able to journey up to Evendim to see you as planned.  Indeed, this might be the last message from my hand for a long while. If only I had not been on an errand when last we parted, then I would have given you a proper goodbye.

In case rumor has not reached your ears, there has been a message sent across Eriador calling for every man we can spare to ride south.  I sense this missive has much to do with the war on Mordor, but the Elves are being rather tight lipped about the subject. As for my Captain, well, I would be better of asking a clam... or the wall for answers. We will be departing within the week and currently, our number is somewhere between thirty men with more slowly trickling into the valley.  Receiving horses from the stables is a small comfort. I'd rather not have to walk all that way.

I write to you as a sort of farewell.  I just- well what do I want? I want someone, anyone to know that I left and I might not return.  I suppose I should write to Mother and to my Father, but they would panic if they knew what I was walking into.  I feel comforted to know that if this is my last missive, it goes to you- Aldor, the man I'm in love with.  I don't want to disappear and leave my memories and unanswered questions haunting people like a ghost. A ghost, dearest Aldor, is something unfinished.  An unfinished life.  An unfinished purpose.  An unfinished story.  If I don't complete mine, I would like you to finish it and bring me home.

I have always loved and I always will. Farewell once more and may we meet once more.

Yours Truly,

Siofran Breckenridge.
