A face, an open book, a hand holding a quill, the only light a small candle. The scratching of the quill on parchment. Eyes glittering occasionally as they follow the movement of the quill.
I have met Eoryn's mother, Cymaru, who works as a barmaid at the Prancing Pony. She seems a very capable woman. She must have been offduty when my work was ruined or I'm sure she would have had something to say about the state of the inn afterwards. Also met Payton, another barmaid, pretty thing and very kind. We hardly spoke at the time as the inn was so full of people, it was difficult to hear oneself think, let alone speak to another. But the evening was enjoyable all the same, time passed very quickly. I did find out however that Eoryn had not been threatened as badly as people had made it out to be. Tongues will wag! I will just say I was relieved to find out she was alright.
A day or two later Eaerthryll came to the inn, with a most excited expression on her face. She ordered a drink and walked over to us. Because she was holding the drink in her hand, I could not help but notice a new ring on her finger. So I asked her straight out if Bearn had finally asked her. She blushed and went all demure, but nodded and said he had. Well, that called for a celebratory drink. Welten was standing near the bar and we spotted Seaver standing on the stairs near the exit, so we rounded them both up and insisted they come drink with us to celebrate Thryll's engagement. Eoryn ordered the drinks which looking back was perhaps not the best of ideas. Since it was still quite early in the morning, Thryll and I decided to have some wine in applejuice. Eoryn was to have plain applejuice. But either Butterbur gave the wrong drink to one of us or he mixed all three with wine, for before we knew it, Eoryn had become quite merry and was blurting out all kinds of comments.
Bearn arrived around this time and the conversation turned to less pleasant subjects. I may have said something wrong at that point for we found out that Seaver has lost both a brother and a father. Bearn and Thryll went out for a walk and Seaver became rather upset and left soon after. I wasn't sure if I should go after him, but Eoryn was in some distress. I won't go into details, but we had to go change her clothing, after which I took her for a walk to clear her head. She soon felt a little better and we went back to the inn. She said she was cold so we sat beside a fire to get warm. Payton came along and offered her a glass of milk and a muffin. She seemed to feel a lot better, but felt tired, so I put her to bed. Which is where I am headed as soon as I finish this entry.
The book is closed and there is rustling heard as a pair of scissors are taken from a pocket and put under a pillow. Then the candle is blown out and darkness falls. Bed springs creak and a little more rustling is heard as someone gets comfortable in bed, but soon all that is heard is the gentle rise and fall of the breathing of someone asleep.
