Changing the World

in

How can I change all the world
When I can't even change my small garden?
And I struggle to get out of bed
Each time the sun brings in the morning
What change to this world can I make?
What steps can a small lad now take?

But it is said the longest of journeys
Always starts with the smallest of steps
So I'll set out this day once again
And this time I will not forget
Through my deeds I can hope to inspire
And bring light to the land of the Shire

I will greet all the folk that I meet
With the warmest and friendliest smile
And those I see standing alone
I'll stop for a chat for a while
To show them that somebody cares
There's never a cause to despair

If ever a person's in need
I will offer a strong helping hand
I can pick up the folk I see fall
And help make their way in this land
I'll want nothing at all in return
Through my deeds I will hope all can learn

No matter what wrongs that are done
I'll strive to behave in the right
Adversity, I'll meet with a smile
My outlook will always be bright
I'll get up if I'm ever knocked down
You'll not see me wearing a frown

And should the time ever come
When goblins swarm down from the North
When hope may be lost from this land
I shall be willing fight for the cause
Fellow hobbits, I'll stand by their side
And no-one can say we never tried

But all that can wait 'til the morning
For first I must work on my garden
