While on patrol I entered the Prancing Pony where a man, who I later learned to be called Ildrand Owen Berrywine, called me over saying he wished to to report an armed assault. I led him to the back of the inn and asked him to explain to me what happened. Attached is a transcript of the encounter. Note: the questions in bold are paraphrased and simplified.
Tell me about the assault.
There was this man, of Rohan, bald, with no beard, in full armour, and armed with bow, arrows and sword. He made comments about my hat, he said that it was expensive, and that I had stolen it - while I regularly paid for it -, openly insulting and slandering my person. He said that I was striking fear into a lass, and when I said that I was not the cause of it I know the lass, and having speaked later to her she said that I indeed wasn't scaring her - he asked me what was the cause of it then. I answered that obviously I could not know, and as soon as I turned, he took his bow and he shot an arrow at the feather on my hat, an arrow that went through the feather, and missed another lass, who was sitting on a barrel behind me, by an inch. He then took his sword, asking me again what was the cause of the other lass's fear; I, dagger in hand, said again that I did not know.
Where did the assault take place?
In the main hall of this inn (The Prancing Pony).
When did this happen...just now?
'No, no. Yesterday.
Do you know this man's name?
No. But he said to be of... Comstead? Corstead? Something like that.
Can I have the girl's name?
Which one of the two? The one who was nearly shot at or the other?
Both
The one who was nearly shot at is Tosie, the-
At this point our meeting was interrupted by the entrance of the fugitive Langdar, however, it was later reported to a different guard that Tosie is the one who was nearly shot at and Fridegyd is the one who was afraid of no one knows what. Ildrand went on to discribe the pair of girls saying, "Tosie is the cute red-head who can't speak. She isn't very tall. Fridegyd is blond and a little pale, she's quite shy. Ah, and she is from Rohan as well"
