A troubled past? Part II

"Death is yet another path we must take Tim.." the words echoed in Tim's mind as he grabbed his gear from the supply room and made his way to wards the barracks, his fathers captain had told him that when Tim came to him and told about what terrible events had taken place three nights ago.

The following morning Tim woke up in the barracks, awaken by the horn call, dressing up in the armour he strapped the belt with his sword attached to it, not his stick sword but his real sword. The sword of his father of course, everyone said it was too heavy for him but he was stubborn and stuck to it, since it was all he had left of his father. He walked out of the barracks and looked around, the first day of training was here.

"FORM A LINE!" the captain shouted and everyone formed a single line, no one dared to say anything as the captain walked the line, up and down, inspecting everyone closely. He shook his head at several other boys in Tims age before he came up to Tim "You..I know who you are..you're the son of Clayton..a drunkard he was, always fooling around with women...but yet...a good man he was..lets see if you're even half as good as he was shall we? Draw your sword.." the captain snarled at Tim, who placed his right hand on his sward and drew it, the first attack came swiftly and almost knocked Tim off his feet "Again!" the captain shouted, Tim prepared again, this time he was ready, his sword met with the captains sword with a loud clang, without further notice, the captain made a new attack towards Tim, who now reacted as his father once told him and parried the third attack and then made his own attack, it was swift and the captains sword flew into the air and landed a few feet from him, still attached was his right hand, holding the sword.

The captain looked at Tim for a brief moment before looking down where is right hand should have been, blood now sipping from the wound, the mans face grew whiter as he looked back at Tim "Do not..talk about my father...that way..he had never been a drunkard nor an unfaithful man.." Tim snarled back, his eyes, those ice blue ones he had from his father gazed at the captain, with hatred and anger. The captain wrapped a piece of cloth around his arm and walked off. Tim standing in the courtyard, the others looking at him.

Later that day while he was training for himself the captain came and apologized to Tim for what he said and left Tim to finish his training. Tim stood a little confused at first, wondering why the captain came and did what he did, he shook his own head and got back to his training. And so did the years pass on for Tim and on the day he turned twenty he was sent to Osgilliath to serve in the garrison there, the same garrison his father served in so he was welcomed as a son to all the men there that knew his father and he served for many years with his fathers friends but some of them had seen to many winters Tim thought and soon one by one took either discharge or were killed in skirmishes with the orcs from Mordor.

After a few years, Tim became a captain himself and took over the lead of the Osgilliath garrison, now at age twentyseven, a respected soldier and a good captain he became and not long after that, while he was back in Minas Tirith, Tim met the woman he would take as his wife a few months later, her name was Kaylin and they fell in love with each other, she use to come to the barracks where Tim and the rest of his men trained and she was welcomed and accepted by the others which made Tim satisfied and there, on the courtyard of the barracks Tim kneeled down and took her hand, in full sight of his men he proposed to her and a few weeks later, in the same courtyard the wedding took place. A beautiful ceremony and Tim and Kaylin moved to a bigger house in the compound close to the barracks.

They lived happily there and while Tim was away Kaylin sorted their home and when Tim came home one day she had something to tell him "Tim dear.." he said and took his hand and placed it on her stomach "You're going to be a father.." Tim looked at her and smiled "That is wonderful dear." he answered and took her into a hug and hold her close for a long time and after nine months, Arianna was born and the regiment celebrated the birth but Tim had to leave for Osgilliath again, Kaylin and Tim were both sad over that but there was nothing they could do but Tim were back a few days later since it was only some papers he needed to fill out.

Six months later, during a night Tim woke up, he was not certain but he thought he heard a noise coming from Ariannas room so he nudged Kaylin and told her "It's my turn now dear so I will go and check on her, I think she cried for one of us." Kaylin nodded and turned aroudnd on the bed, Tim looked at his wife for a second and walked out of the room and over to Arianna's room but when he came in she was not crying, she was a sleep so he gazed on her for a few moments while he smiled in the dark for him self and then walked out of the room, noticing flames now roaming in the house, flames that made it closer to the bedroom where Kaylin slept, Tim rushed over and woke her up "We need to get out of the house now dear..someone or something has put it ablaze.." Kaylin looked chocked at Tim and nodded as she hurried over to Arianna's room, not long after that a very upset cry could be heard as Arianna woke by her mother lifting her up. Tim and Kaylin ran down the stairs, then disaster struck as the roof collapsed over Kaylin just as she was about to get out of the door.

Tim turned as he heard it and was horrified to see his wife with their daughter in her arms trapped underneath all the rubble, rushing in to try and help her he got a hold of Kaylin's hand and managed to pull her closer to the gap in hte rubble but none of them had any strength left so Tim curled up close to the little gap and looked at his wife and daughter and leant in and kised his wife one last time before the flames and the house took her away from him.
