My lord,
My earnest entreaties were mercifully heeded by your lordship, and the guard being sent away, Estarfin resolved to quit the House of Healing at once. We permitted him to return to his rooms, thinking that he might, in another place, be settled and better adjusted to his change in fortune. But upon seeing a remarkable store of arms inside his chambers, I was forced to invite him to stay with me, until the cache of weapons is removed and sent to the armoury. Your lordship will be graciously pleased to know that Estarfin shows no sign of wanting to leave, and continues to mend in a state of perfect tranquility and happiness, the interruption of which is so much deplored by us and every one within the Valley. So long as this is maintained, all is well with us.
Alas that I have received a too well-grounded report of a missing scout (presumed dead), which leaves no doubt whatsoever of the difficulties faced by the soldiers stationed in the mountains. These repeated and horrible accounts that we hear of goblins, of Wargs, of great wandering creatures, unfortunate proof of the Enemy's relentless determination to do this country every injury, have stirred up a great many to waiting and watchfulness, as it seems that clouds are gathering, and a storm is sure to fall.
Just yesterday evening, Lilleduil, one of Khalis and Elisbeth’s folk, told me of a giant espied close to the Valley, and said it will take a full complement of warriors to bring it down. She has been tracking its movements, and if I should speak to Lord Khalis, I shall certainly prevail upon him, and see if we can obtain anything else to help.
We might consider the raising of one or more volunteer companies to seek out and slay this creature, and to carry food to the afflicted outposts. I would even take the supplies myself, despite the hazard, so fixed is my resolve to see these dangers removed, and the Valley restored to its former peaceable state.
I entreat therefore your lordship will let me know your commands so soon as is possible. There is now no time to lose. I know you will command me nothing but what shall be fittest for me to do, so I trust to it, and shall strive in all things while I live to carry myself always as becomes,
Your most humble and obedient servant,
Parnard Teludarion
Lord Ambassador of Bar-en-Vanimar.
