The letter's pamphlet, the containing paper, bars the seal of Rukhmorn Valantris (as seen below). It is unbroken, and the letter does not seem to have been tampered with, although it does look rather worn - indicating that it has traveled a long journey. The letter also seems to be folded on itself, before being placed in a small paper-pamphlet.
This letter is written to Salgalin of the House Valantris
The Hall of Valantris, Thorin's Halls, Ered Luin
Ulfhirth, Five Frothing Road
Dearest brother.
I would hope that this letter reaches you in due time, before I myself return to Thorin's Halls. I would also hope that before it has reached you, you have already met with our nephew Garmorn to discuss his plans.
We both know him well enough to realise that he may act without your agreement, and thus I hope you have agreed; for that would atleast allow some stability to remain in our family, even if it is not mutually beneficial to allow him to do such a thing.
While I will not write of his plans, for reasons concerning his own safety, I will state that he was perhaps inspired by the recent events in the Misty Mountains; from where I am returning.
The Dwarves there have been suffering greatly due to issues concerning the lack of supplies. The Elves in Rivendell assured me that they were doing their 'best' to prevent our Dwarrow-kin in the mountains from dying due to the terrible weather and conditions, though I have little cause to trust them - for while the two of us are more 'understanding' and trusting of the other races, I do not feel as though the Elves that spoke to me were entirely truthful.
Why, if they were - then my visit to the mountains, to meet and talk over certain matters would be of no use. I do sincerely hope that we can provide some form of support to the Dwarves there, even though we are situated too far to the west to act directly.
I have recently met Murgoin, whom I trust you would know, if not in person: he was the son of Borgu II, the person scribe of Harkmorn during the time of his 'Manûr Dynasty'. He was in Rivendell, and was planning to write a book, of sorts, on the Elves there - a 'Travel Guide' for the Dwarves seeking to journey eastward.
I swayed him from the idea, and rightly so I do believe: for there are so few of our kind traveling east, that it would be folly to write on such a thing. I have also persuaded him to write of our House, so that we may have a chronicle to keep, and perhaps publish.
I believe that my journey to the mountains was not entirely wasted; it has given me the chance to speak with our folk that 'live' there. I shall soon return to Thorin's Halls, where I believe I shall wait for a week; should you be there also, we can discuss the matter further.
Rukhmorn
