A busy day was once more done
And I had started making tea
There was an aching in my tum
A feast of food awaited me!
With bread and cheese and stew and fish
And pies and tarts upon a dish
I started laying out my plates
Whilst thinking if I needed more
I heard a-rattling of the gate
And then a-knocking at my door
Now who's that interrupting me?
I was about to have my tea!
Now at the door was Bounder Nat
He'd said he found my misplaced keys
He placed them on the table mat
And helped himself to bits of cheese
And as he turned to leave my hole
He also ate a fresh bread roll
Before I had a chance to walk
In came Gaffer Garbo then
He wanted me to lend a fork
As he had broken his again
And just before he said goodbye
He grabbed and ate a tasty pie
I sighed and turned to face my chair
But still once more I heard a knock
"Oh cousin Bill, come in from there"
He'd travelled all the way for Stock
He was quite tired, but peckish too
And polished off a bowl of stew
And when he napped; Twas food again!
But no! A tapping could be heard
A neighbour at my window pane
Come offering a friendly word
A quick goodnight he then did wish
He also ate my plate of fish
Yet there was someone else to come
For at my door was now the Mayor
And with him was his massive tum
But all he did was stand and stare
And though he quickly did depart
He took with him my lovely tarts
Oh, finally I reached my chair
All set to now enjoy my tea
But wait, I see the table's bare
The nothing's now left for me!
There may be welcome in this home
I wish they'd left my food alone!
