The history of Mittanyaro

Mittanyaro saw the light in the Years of the Trees, and lived amongst his kin of the House of Fingolfin, the High King of the Noldor. His name was given to him by his mother and means 'leader'. He served under Fingolfin's command and he served his lord with honor. Mittanyaro took part in the battle at Alqualondë but he bears no shame or regret for his actions. The Host of Fingolfin, with whom Mittanyaro marched, saw a raging battle so they decided to help their kindred. At this time however none knew that it was the House of Feanor itself who were the aggressors. After Feanor's betrayal at Losgar they were forced to march over the frozen wastelands of the Helcaraxë. During this long and terrible journey many of Mittanyaro's brothers in arms left their bodies behind in the cold blizzards and their fate is known: they rest now in the Halls of Mandos. Many battles have been fought since then and many sworn enemies have been slain. The Noldo Mittanyaro has seen many glorious victories. Alas, when the War of Unnumbered Tears tore the lands, the Noldor pride and hatred towards the Dark Lord's forces eventually made him blind for everything he had learned: he broke out of battle-formations and caught himself separated from the rest of his kin, fighting alone. After a brave yet hopeless fight the servants of the enemy captured him and brought him back to Angamando, which the Sindar call Angband. There, the foul servants of Gorthaur stripped off his armour, and his shield and sword were taken away from him. Yet the filthy orcs could not touch them without burning their hands, as both shield and sword were crafted in the forges of Valinor. He himself was thrown into the dungeons of the Iron Mountains where he was tortured both by the cruel doings of orcs and other foul creatures and the terrible screams of fellow Elves and Men. A long time then passed. Days became months, and months became years. The once strong and proud Noldo who saw the Light of the Trees was no more. Torture and darkness weakened him, and yet his spirit grew stronger and stronger every day, filled with hatred and with a wish more important to him than freedom: revenge on his jailor. Suddenly he woke up, for a loud bang and noise shook the dungeons. He did not yet know this was the sound of the falling towers of the Thangorodrim. The walls must have been cracked, because sounds of a fierce battle outisde echoed through the dark dungeons. War was upon Angamando! The Valar themselves with the Host of the Vanyar had breached the walls of the fortress of evil. It was not long before the doors were broken and Mittanyaro was blinded by the light of the Vanyar's armour glinting in the sun and the glory of the Valar. The light was so bright that Mittanyaro passed out, for he had not seen even a glimpse of light in years. Some time later Mittanyaro was brought not to Aman but to an order of Elves called the Laiquendi Order who hailed from Ossiriand. After his wounds were healed, Mittanyaro offered his shield to Calenrandil Cudae who goes by the name of Seifor, Lord of the Laiquendi Order. From that day on, he is a shield-brother of the Laiquendi Order, and he is known as Mittanyaro Aratuma, which is Mittanyaro Noble-Shield.
