Dear Mother and Father,
Rua says we have been in the Weather Hills for about two weeks now. I don't know what day it is. We found iron ore. It was in a bog. Rua chopped down some trees to make a big fire and we cooked the iron ore. I burned my fingers learning how to make the ingots, but not badly. Rua has a cream that took the pain away. The ponies stayed close to us because Rua tied them with string. I like them. They eat grass. At night we sometimes hear wolves howling. Rua says they are not dangerous. He says wargs are. He tells me to stay close to camp and to always keep my daggers with me. I have been practising throwing them at trees. At first I kept missing but I am getting better. Sometimes I can hit the tree.
Last night we got woken up by the bell string. Rua killed the goblin that was trying to get in. It was ugly with crooked teeth. It smelled bad. It's brains were smashed on the floor and there was some blood. Rua took the body outside and cleaned the blood up by throwing sand on the floor. I had a nightmare that a goblin got me but Rua says as long as the bell string is up we will always know in time. Today we moved camp because Rua said that more goblins might come. He says one goblin is easy to kill but three or four are hard. I like the new camp, it is a cave with a silver vein. I think the ponies were happy to move too. We had bean stew for supper.
