((Hilfar returned to his workshop after a long journey from Bree. His workshop is situated in the blue mountains found after following a maze of hallways and stone corridors. It is a rather tight place and not a single place on its walls are unused. A great collection of dried herbs and other plants can be found on one end and a collection of cultivation seeds on the other. In the middle stands a stocky table filled with glassware and all manner of elixer vials, mortar and pestels and distillation equipment.))
Short log in Hilfars journal:
Day 1 - extraction
I unfolded the cloth that was wrapped around the yarrow bundles I found in the desolate lands east of Bree. The flowers were dried nicely during the long trip back. After I took a seat and put on a monocle, I inspected the flowers thoroughly, they were well preserved. I had to separate the seeds and flowerheads from the excessive plant materials. After a half a days work I had a small pouch full of yarrow seeds which are stored separately. The yarrow flowerheads was what I needed now, so I grinded it to a fine yellowish powder. I have send word to Lothinn, my befriended healer of Thorins hall for council.
For a test batch I will extract a small amount of yarrowflower powder.
Dosage: Basic plant oils salve with 10 %, 20%, 30%, 40 % or 50 % yarrowextract.
Day -2: Council
There is simply no information written in my book collection about infections in the eyesocket. But I know for sure sir Brulk needs a strong and effective salve. I will make test samples for Lothinn to try on his patients with similar infections. Lothinn visited me today, he treated one patient before with an infected eyesocket. His patient died however as the infection spread to his brain and made him as half witted as a cave claw. Its a matter of haste now! Lothinn advised me I should also work on a potion, as the infection may spread through his system.
Day-4: The cure
Word from Lothinn, salves with 30-50 % yarrowextract were equally effective! Dwarves with infected wounds had felt relief after one day already. Lothinn will take a batch of salves from my hands as well.
Salve: Basic plant oil and beeswax mixture with 40 % yarrowextract.
