Yarrow

Two mounted dwarves thread slowly through the merciless sun. In the front rides Hilfar who is covering his eyes from the sunlight looking around him thoroughly. Behind him rides his father Ullfar grumbling as he goes.  After a long trade mission in Bree, Hilfar insisted to look for Yarrow flowers east of Bree. This put Ullfar in a bad mood as he hoped to return to Thorins hall which was planned initially, and not to look for bloody flowers!

Every now and then Ullfar asks annoyed "any sign of yer forsaken flowers yet!?". Hilfar keeps peering around him apparently in quite a merry mood "No hahahah! But I expect we will find them soon enough!". More grumbling behind him as Ullfar scans he horizon for any dangers. The barren lands east of Bree are empty, the horizon is hazy of the burning sun. As the ponies thread through the sand and rocky wasteland, the shapes of the great watchtower becomes apparent in the distant.

Ulfar stares solemnly at the watchtower "Why flowers and plants? Why don't you behave like a normal dwarf and dig into the mines!?". Hilfar smiles and answers wittily "Do I need to remind you of the profit I made in Bree? Was it twice as much as yours or more, I don't remember...". Ullfar merely grumbled in reply.

After a while Hilfar nearly screamed of excitement "HA! there they are!". Hilfar spurred his horse towards a hill where out of nowhere white flowers were growing between loose rocks. Ullfar shouted "Finally!". They both dismounted as Hilfar was immediately inspecting the yarrow flowers and mumbled to himself "Perfect, ah yes.. this will do nicely, enough, aye its plenty". Ullfar leaned on his great battleaxe and stood on a large rock overlooking the area.

Hilfar sweated as he cutted the flowers by the bush and tied the steels together in a bundle. He folded the bundles in a water adsorbing cloth and repeated this without taking notice of his surroundings. Ullfar peered in he distance and the grasp on his battleaxe tightened. Ullfars voice was firm as he jumped off the rock "Wrap it up! Wargs inbound!".

Two wargs caught the scent of them were running towards the ponies for a quick meal. Hilfar hastily put all he gathered in a large sack and went to search for his pony. Both horses were jumping up and down nervously by the approaching wargs. Ullfar stood in between them both hands on his axe standing firm to strike "Come on! I need a new floor rug!". Hilfar shivered at the sight of the wargs, and went numb for a moment. He reached for his club with gem inlays and a shield. Shivering behind his shield he hid behind his father, hoping for the best of it.

A roar bellowed through the barren vale as Ullfar roared and struck the first incoming warg, the axe had cloven the skull of the beast, Ullfar planted his foot on the dieing warg to pull his axe out again. The second warg ran past Ullfar and stormed at Hilfar throwing its body on his shield. Hilfar fell over and got slammed to the ground, holding the wargs head away from him with both hands. The wargs breath was awful and his jaws snapped viciously inches from his nose, as saliva was dripping on his face. Hilfar screamed of fear and anger to keep the wargs head away from his. A moment later there was a yelp and Hilfar still held the head of the warg, yet it was removed from its body. Ullfar wiped his head with his arm as he removed the axe from the decapitated warg. Hilfar threw the head aside out of disgust. As the adrenaline level slowly dropped Hilfar could smile again and patted his fathers shoulder " Way to go father, ye sure showed 'em who is boss!". Ullfar smiled and raised a brow "Come son, let us leave this pit."
