arrival in Ost Guruth

I cannot believe how stupid I was when we left Imladris. Of all the things to forget, I left my sword on my desk. I mean… My sword ! I know I'm bad with a sword and that if I need to use it, chances are that I'll have better chance if I drop the sword and run for dear life but to forget it as I did… Stupid. Completely stupid !

It was Dolthafaer who noticed my lack of weapon. Even I didn't notice. I'm surrounded by people in armor and with 2-3 different  weapons each and yet I didn't notice that I had none myself… I cannot thank Dolthafaer enough for he gave me one dagger so that I wouldn't have to do with my small knife that was usually used for cutting roots and leaves to make salves or… well, anything really.

Leaving the valley without a weapon… I mean, usually I am NOT that bad or I would already be dead ! The dagger is quite pretty too. When Dolthafaer gave me his dagger he said : "You are a healer, not a fighter, I hope you will not need it." well, thank you, that makes two of us.

Oh and an elf just joined our group. He's named Eleglas, is a gardener, and the wildlife apparently don't like him. He has no horse. I think we should see about providing him with one just in case. He wishes to join the order of the Hammer, but somehow lord Veryacano thinks he's too young at 200 or so. He's here to prove himself. I wish him good luck.

Sadly that elf doesn't know how to call me by name. I'm sure that it's not so hard to forget I'm a lord now… Besides it's so new a development, really I don't see why people have problem with just my name when we are not in a formal occasion !

Eleglas found trolls on our way to the last bridge before the land of men. But no traces of Themodir. Well, good I think.

We waited a little while before the bridge for Ancalassë, sent scouting ahead. He joined us in one piece and with no injury that I could see. I was glad. One can never know how things will turn out with the members of the order of the Hammer.

He reported that there was no danger on the way to the inn. And there's a human… Settlement in some ruins. We went there. I cannot say that I am exactly happy about it though. I am somehow glad I speak westron fluently. I at least can understand the men living here.

The guard before the ruin told me that he doesn't remember seeing Themodir. If he passed this way, either he didn't join the human settlement, or he was really discreet when he did.

And he also told me that his people weren't going to turn away travelers, as the land is dangerous, but if we wanted to stay the night and leave peacefully come morning we better not annoy, threaten, injure, steal anything or anyone and no funny business like casting spell on someone.

Well, I don't think that any of us can cast bewitch anyone really so I am not exactly worried about that point. I'd like to know however if that tale of the elves power on poor defenseless humans is his belief personally or the belief of the whole community here.

If it was of the community as a rule, then it may become a problem come morning. Well… Come the hour to depart. Otherwise it'd be fine I think.

Ancalasse went to see if he could get us accommodations. And he succeeded in getting us beds. Well after seeing where and the state of the beds, I've decided that I preferred to sleep outside on the floor.

The beds were filthy, the entire room was… highly unclean, I mean, the beds were almost black from dirt and whatever, there's even rats in the beds and if there's rats, chances are that there's also fleas. actually fleas appear first in beds so that's actually a given that there is fleas in there. Besides, as soon as Ancalasse fell asleep, he began to snore even louder than a dwarf with a cold. I really wonder how anyone can rest with all that noise he's making !

Lady Sargiel also chose to sleep outside. The tents there are cleaner, and she preferred to stay there.

I didn't care much for the tents either. The tree I'm under and the floor are both cleaner than the beds and bedrolls provided by these men.

We were joined outside by lord Belethoriel. When Sargiel went to sleep, lord Belethoriel and I watched the stars a moment and I played some music. I'm glad he didn't mind the music. That's something I always miss when I'm on the road : the inability of playing music when I wish it. And somehow I am even more glad that he accepted to pass sometimes just watching the stars and listening to music and talking with me. I may be wrong… But he is too silent. Too alone even within our group.

Though I believe that he regrets talking to me. The magic of being a minstrel have hit again. But, usually people are not sorry for speaking to me afterward.

I wonder if I ask him about how he came to be a prisoner of Dol Guldur and his life before he'll answer me. Probably not seeing as he already seemed to regret the very little he confided in me.

Besides, it wouldn't be very kind of me to ask, would it ?! Nor very respectful. After all, if he didn't chose to tell me or to let anyone of us know so he probably doesn't want to talk about, which I can perfectly understand. Though...
