Fea opened her eyes slowly, her heavy lids reluctant to let the light in, but she forced herself to raise her eyes from the ground to look up towards where Paulie stood and pursed her lips together as she pulled herself up from the ground to stand before him.
Placing her hands on her hips defiantly, she took a deep breath holding onto it until she could hold it in no longer and let out a long low sigh which sounded a little bit like a depressed moan. Awkwardly, she looked over her shoulder to see if anyone else was around to break the silence, but there wasn’t. Disappointed, she turned back to look at him again while rubbing the back of her neck. The tension had been building up not only in the air between them, but in her neck too, she tilted her head from side to side and glanced over the other shoulder to double check nobody else had come along. Still nobody was there, only her, and only him, and the thick air, and the tension.
Typical of him of course, he just stood there, which irritated her even more. He never gave one single hint at what was going through his mind, instead, he would just stand as still as a statue, cold as stone, unmoving, unblinking, unanything!!! She crossed her arms defensively in case he was looking at something she had and being the crabby possessive cow she was, she didn’t want him looking at anything of hers without her say so. Now she was ticked off, not only was he standing there doing nothing, but he might be looking at something she didn’t want him looking at. She spun around quickly so he couldn’t look at it anymore, but at the same time glanced down to make sure her buttons weren’t undone or that she didn’t have something hanging out that shouldn’t have been. Relieved it wasn’t that, she looked up again, must be something else on his mind then, she thought to herself.
Feeling particularly stupid now, she defiantly flicked her hair over her shoulder trying to give the impression that she just didn’t care. And she didn’t either, unless she had been right in the first place and he was looking at her and thinking stuff he wasn’t telling her, he had no right!!! Not if what he was thinking was about her, he didn’t ask her permission. Biting her lip, Fea fought internally with herself. One side of her brain was telling her he was doing it just to annoy her, the other side of her brain was telling her to cop herself on and stop being a thick plank, but neither side was winning, so instead, she just decided to stand just as still as him and face the same direction as him and pretend that they were both looking off into the distance at something particularly interesting.
Which they weren’t of course, both of them were just standing there pretending that they didn’t give a flying monkey’s uncle about the other one, yet at the same time, refusing to move from the others side. It could be said that they were equally matched. Feea was just as stubborn as the stubborn animal by her side (which by the way, obviously is unable to talk to her.)
