The Way Back Home: part 8

Finally home

First we went north. We marched on the east side of the Long Lake towards Erebor. We saw Esgaroth (Laketown) to our left. A floating city made only of wood which I though was very dangerous, one fire could set it all a blaze! And as I knew this happened before with Smaug.  Esgaroth prospered I saw there were al lot of big ships in the harbor. After that we past through the rich city of Dale which also had good times. Erebor was our last stop before our long march towards Azanulimbar-Dûm began. But first we stayed a while in Erebor.

The were these huge dwarven statues outside of Erebor, a magnificent sight I think, it really made me proud of being a dwarf. Once we came in I saw it. I had never imagined the beauty of these halls. It was grand, all made out of carven stone of course. The height of dwarven architecture. At our stay I visited the great forges. These were massive machines smelting enormous amounts of gold. but also the rich iron that came in from the Iron Hills, my home. After that I went to see some weaponsmith's, to learn some new skills. Which I did i learned to work with the most difficult metals like ancient ones and even mithril. I had also learned to fold metal so that it has more layers which makes it sharpers and harder to break. It was a privilege to have learned from these great dwarven craftsmen. But it was time to move on again for we now ventured east. A long march towards Azanulimbar-Dûm was ahead.

It was a long way to Azanulimbar-Dûm. Marching, marching, marching... but there they were the Iron Hills, you could see them in the distends. But then we heard a trampling noise to the south. Warg riders from Dol Goldur! We had no cavalry so they quickly surrounded us. They came very close and threw javelin's at us. The shield's caught most of them but there were some casualties. When they came to close we threw throwing axes. The warg riders on by one fell and where finished. Some even charged directly into the formation and overran a few dwarves, but when the warg's lost their speed they were vulnerable. The last two warg rider's retreated. We lost quite a few dwarves as we did not see this ambush coming, so far up north-east. Rimli I saw was also wounded but not dead luckily... He bled heavily and could not command the unit anymore. Gyrrak took command. We were nearly there..

At last I could finally see it, my home Azanulimbar-Dûm with it's banners high and proud in the air! I was finally home. "Welcome home brother" Gyrrak said. When we got most of the soldiers went to the barracks of the Silverguard. I however went directly to my family's house, even though I was immensely tired from the journey I wanted to know why? Why was I send so far away to where I would never see my parents. When I got to the door the two guards would not even let me through. I said that I was Ryga son of Ryhrad, but they did not believe me. I shouted to Gyrrak who was not so far away. Gyrrak ordered the guards to let me through.

"Dad I'm home!" I shouted. Ryhrad came down, "who is this?" he said. I know filled with anger said "Does a father not even recognize his own son?". "Ryga? But..but how?". "Is it that odd then to see someone all the way from the Blue mountains?". My father was speechless, he could not believe I had come all the way from Ered Luin to here. My dad started to cry, "how could I have been so stupid, To do my own son away?". "Why, why indeed?" I asked filled with anger. After a moment I actually started to pity him. I gave him a hug and everything came out, I did not think a person could regret a decision so much as he did. He stopped crying and looked very serious now. "My son..we had to, let me tell you it all at a good meal".

"It was the year 2932. There was almost no money nor food left, Azanulimbar-Dûm was on the edge of bankrupting". "This because all the major iron and silver veins went dry so there was no way of making money here". "And then Madred (my mother) became pregnant, of you". "We had little choice but to send you away just like you're uncle, and thats also what happend to Doror". "In Ered Luin there were no problems, so we left you there at your uncle". "How is he by the way?". I said "Dad, I am afraid that he is no longer with us". My dad was very shocked by this. "But how? He was fine when we left you there". "I don't know" I said "It was something like a sickness caused by some kind of spell". "We never really knew, but that was long ago". "Well son I'm really glad you're back". "O by the way I just heard about Rimli, he'll be fine the doctors say".

So there I was, finally home.. what to do know? Only time can tell.

Here ends my story, I hoped you like reading it. I certainly did writing it.
