Letter to Elisbeth

Faorie returned to Imladris after a long, unsuccessful night tracing Thendryt. There were no tracks to follow, no signs to search for, no witnesses to question - a way to locate Thendryt by this point was nonexistent.

Unkempt and slightly dirty, Faorie washed herself and replaced her armour with temporary casual attire. Dark clouds still rolled over Rivendell from the earlier rain accompanied by chill winds unusual for the season. Dried leaves rolled across the roads, making crinkly sounds with every turn the winds would take them.

The elf sat on the edge of the platform found directly ahead from the entrance of the Homely House. Elves would walk back and forth in the courtyard - socializing, meditating, relaxing. There Faorie remained, a clean parchment with ink and a quill in hand. Leaning close to the paper, she began to write.

Lady Elisbeth,

I write to you to inform you that I was unable to fulfill my mission in keeping a watch over Lord Thendryt. I had managed to follow him near Delossad shortly before he raced out of my sight.

I am convinced that he became aware of my presence, or perhaps the presence of hidden company, and chose to distance himself from me as quickly as he could. I am not confident in finding him in Eregion with him knowing that there may be someone attempting to trace him. Locating his whereabouts would also be difficult due to the previous evening's downpour of rain in the Trollshaws. Any and all tracks have been disturbed by the weather and would lead me nowhere.

Faorie furrowed her brow, remembering the sight of Thendryt. The look in his eyes, the way they shifted slowly around the dark forest when Faorie hid. She rubbed her temples and relaxed her shoulders. Taking a deep breath, she continued on writing.

I will continue my duties in Imladris for the time being, and will keep watch for his return.

Before scribbling her signature, she raised her chin and stared forward in thought for a brief moment. An inhabitant of Rivendell stopped and politely nodded to Faorie in greeting. Smiling, Faorie returned the nod and turned her attention back to the letter.

Let us hope he returns, for the last time he was given leave he disappeared for three years.

With her signature elegantly printed, she folded the paper evenly over itself and wrote the intended recipient's name on the cover. The letter would no doubt quickly find its way to Elisbeth and Faorie would continue on with her usual duties around Rivendell and throughout the Trollshaws.
