Intentions to Travel

Thendryt stood along the bank of the lake found in a relatively private area of Rivendell, staring out along the movements of the waters. He was still, the shade of the immense boulder beside him shadowing him from the lowering sun's rays.

Two elves were approaching not far from where he stood - Nelnardis and Faorie. They stopped once near him.

He turned his body towards the two, shifting his gaze between them.

A small moment of silence followed their arrival before Faorie broke it. She spoke in a calm yet concerned voice. “Thendryt, are you alright?”

Not long before the three stood where they were, they stood in the Hall of Fire with a large company of the Warband alongside them. Melgolliel, one of the recruits of the kin, had been bestowed her task in order to become a Chosen Warrior. Shortly after, Almrond, a Malledhrim hunter, appeared and was welcomed into the ranks of the Warband. Wine was shared, conversations were lively, and the warriors were enjoying each others presence before the day grew dim and many had to depart back to their duties. A small few had been left to converse, but at one moment Faorie had glanced towards Thendryt to note him expressing discomfort, as if something was troubling him.

He had left, leaving an even lesser few to socialize and eventually it was Nelnardis and Faorie left in the Hall of Fire.

It was then that the two chose to search for Thendryt and see to his possible concerns.

Thendryt looked upon the elves. “Faorie, Nelnardis. I had not realized I was being followed.”

Nelnardis responded with a gentle smile.

“I would have imagined you to be the type to always know when he's followed,” Faorie said with a hint of humor. She grinned slightly, staring forward to the darkly dressed man.

“Elves are light on their feet,” he responded simply. It was easier to understand Thendryt's expressions without his usual mask covering a fairly large portion of his face. A long scar was traced along his brow towards his nose. It had only ever been noted briefly once in the past, but Faorie's curiosity had never faded.

“So it seems,” Faorie said, smiling faintly. Before another silence could fill the air, Faorie repeated her question from earlier. “Thendryt, are you alright? In the Hall of Fire you seemed...”

Nelnardis turned his gaze onto Faorie. Nelnardis had no doubt noticed his troubled expression as well. She slowly turned her attention back towards Thendryt, listening for his answer.

Thendryt furrowed his brow slightly, again appearing to have something bothering him, and turned towards the small lake. He raised his chin, staring out again as he spoke. “I'm going to go away for a while.”

Faorie and Nelnardis stared at Thendryt, uncertain of how to react. Nelnardis took the opportunity to question him. “A task from the Lady?”

“I'll speak to Elisbeth tomorrow and ask for a temporary leave.”

“Where are you going, if I may ask?”

“South,” Thendryt said in a low tone. “Through Eregion. There is something I need to...” he paused briefly before finishing, “...find out.” His face relaxed, appearing calm. “I shouldn't be gone for long.”

Faorie, not able to keep herself from feeling worry, asked, “Is there something we should be concerned about?”

“Concerned?” Thendryt repeated. “No, no. Nothing's wrong.”

“Perhaps you would like company?” Nelnardis offered.

“No,” Thendryt said simply.

Faorie looked at Nelnardis after Thendryt's response, then turned back to him.

“No... I'll travel alone. Thank you,” he added.

Nelnardis, though hesitant, nodded in understanding. “Very well. I hope you find what you are looking for.”

“I'm sure I will,” Thendryt said calmly.

Nelnardis smiled faintly. “Be safe.”

Faorie, though curious to Thendryt's plans, held a low stare. Thendryt, though asked time and time again, had been found to be extremely private about his thoughts, and more so his history. Faorie wished to question him, but she knew she would not receive any answers. It only took this thought to cause Faorie to speak in a quieted tone. “Yes... be safe.” She then turned and walked away suddenly without another word, something she would not usually do.

Thendryt did not react to her departure, though Nelnardis watched Faorie walk away, both surprised and worried about the way she took her leave from the group.

As she walked away, Faorie began to feel a bit of shame for the way she departed from the others, but she knew what sort of answers there was to expect if she were to ask anything that were to require greater detail of his journey. There was something about Thendryt that Faorie wished greatly to know, but what it is is yet to be seen.
