The Way Back Home: part 5

Crossing the Misty Mountains

In Rivendell. My plan was to cross the Misty Mountians and to take an escort trough Mirkwood. I am personally not really fond of elves so I left Rivendell early. Into the Misty Mountains. I packed warm clothes for the cold weather up there. Up I went, first to gloin's camp. I asked for a guide to help me get over the mountains. Luckily there just returned one.

The guide's name was Thrin. Thrin said we were going east, up to the Eastern Bruinen Suirce to a camp. After that over the North High Pass. He said it was safe although there were some recent activities of goblins. There we went, I was very nervous at first because this would be the first time I had been going over the mountains to the east side of Middle Earth. The only thing I remember from my home Azanulimbar-Dûm was the Silverguard. Standing proud as me and my parents were leaving for Ered Luin.

When we came to the camp near the Northern High Pass they said there was a problem. Goblins had established a camp. It was dangerous to cross the mountains now. the plan was to sneak by them under the cover of darkness.

There was no moon that night, so I could only barely see Thrin. After a little while of walking I lost Thrin, all of a sudden, gone. The last thing I heard was some shouting and a body falling in the snow. Was he dead? Now I was all alone, no light and no idea where to go. After a little while I heard someone saying: "Ryga, Ryga where are you lad?". Here I said, a little harder than I meant to. he quickly said shush. There are allot of goblin there he said, too much to try to descent. He proposed to go southeast and descent there, but first to find a cave and wait for day.

I woke up. But Thrin wasn't there, was he gone again, or killed by some goblins in the night? I panicked a little but then he came with some meat. We made a fire and ate it. after I was finished eating he said that that was actually flesh from a giant. I almost puked when I started laughing, the bastard! We left and descended without any further troubles. Here at a camp at the border of Mirkwood we would part. Before he left he said one thing to me:"They are waiting for you". He said it with a smile so I presumed he meant it positive. But then again he didn't know me, so what should this mean? He departed and there he went again as if it was just another day at work. I will never forget that dwarf.

Here ends part five of my story.
