Fried Fish, Onions, and Strange Encounters - Part II



The small dwarven company, put off by the facilities of the Forsaken Inn, decided to return to Bree and the Prancing Pony. Having caught some nice catfish in a small pond on the way, they approached the gate late in the evening.

 

The three dwarves, Beigeldi​, Svartskeggi, and Ryðskeggi, walked in a neat line towards the southern gate of Bree. The gate-keeper, in the process of closing the gate for the night, saw the dwarf company approach and let them enter without more hassle than a sideways look.

It was decided that they would have a mug of ale and try to prepare some catfish for a late supper before going to bed. Slightly weary after the long road, but also satisfied and very keen on some fried fish, they entered the Pony. On the pegs were hung a grey, a blue, and a finely decorated grey-white hood.

"Shall I fetch us some ale?" asked Svartskeggi. "Then you go and find a table for us."

Having settled by a table in the middle of the inn, they all had a good amount of Mr. Butterbur's beer before Svartskeggi rose and said, "I wonder if we can ask one Mr. Butterbur's maids to prepare our fish. Did you put it in your rucksack, Ryði?"

"It is in mine," said Beigeldi.

"I gave it to Geldi as per usual," answered Ryðskeggi; for Beigeldi was the best cook in their company and carried most of their food supplies and cooking equipment.

Svartskeggi went to fetch the fish from Beigeldi's backpack. He came back shortly thereafter and nodded to indicate that the food was on its way. The company sat quietly with their mugs of amber-coloured ale looking around at the crowd; The Prancing Pony was indeed quite unusually crowded that night and many strange folk had gathered there it seemed...
