Journal page # 143 - Trouble found us.

It has been a while since I took time to write in this journal. Yet today things happened that needs to be remembered. The journey so far went without much trouble, besides the warriors that crossed our path when we left Bree-land. Yet today trouble found our company again. This morning when we woke near the wild flowing river, we could not find Leofmund. After an hour he walked towards us without his horse, looking grim. The horse had ran off for some reason. I tried to give him hope that his faithful horse would return, but saw he was holding the bridle. A host of wild men had crossed the river last night and managed to get a hold on his horse and butchered it. It would have been a matter of time before the wild men were on to us. We started to pack quickly. There was no way to cross the river there, the current was too strong, so we had to find a more quiet part. Once we moved east and climbed a hill, we saw that wild men were setting camp on our side of the river.

We had to find a way around them without being noticed. We managed to do so, with exception of a few scouts which were quickly dispatched. We were leaving traces of our presence which made me nervous. We climbed up a stair way on a high rock formation not far from the river. Here we could oversee the area without drawing much attention. The wild men appeared to be tracking us as small groups were searching the area. We had to stay on the hidden plateau for the night, since it was not safe to proceed. After a restless night we had to move on before dawn would set in. We went around the rock formation and found a quiet path further east. I noticed Leofmund missed his bow, and told him he forgot something. He mentioned that he traded it with elves. I did not believe his story at first, as he told there were elves holed higher up in the same rock formation where we all had spend the night. Apparently they threatened Leofmund as they thought we were one of the wild men. After his tale I looked up the rock formation searching for an elf to see if his story held truth. It appeared so, I saw one watching us holding a bow that looked very much like the bow of Leofmund. Another reason to get out of here fast!

We walked upstream, the river consisted of various waterfalls. At one point we saw rocks lying at the edge of a waterfall which looked like a way to cross the river. We decided to go for it. I managed to cross the river with my brother and Leofmund, Yet when we looked back it appeared Wulfreda was missing. We were looking down waterfall into the river to find any sign of her, but there was none. We started to lose hope as surviving a fall like that was slim. Yet we found her all the way down as she was flushed against the river bank. She did not appear to be moving, and we feared the worst. We managed to get the water out of her and life had been given back to her. Sighs of relief as our companion appeared to be alright. She was very lucky to have survived that fall, she is clearly blessed by her forefathers.

We could not rest long, as wild men were looking for us and elves were still keeping an eye on our presence. We found a way across the river and ventured further south. Another forest we walked in again, what is it with all these rivers and forests! Night was upon us again and this forest grew very dark. We found a safe corner on a hill ridge overlooking the area we had been through. Leofmund made a fire, but we all fell asleep, even the one that should be keeping watch. We lost so much time the last days, and too many eyes have noticed our presence. Besides that, I have no idea where we are. Going at this alone was reckless and may come with a price..
