Who is the maiden that peers back from my mirror? I gaze at her dress and see the fabric and fit that conforms to her every shape and ask inwardly,"What scars from battles fought does your fabric conceal?" She does not answer aloud but searches with her eyes upon my form as I stand before her. This maiden in the mirror mocks me with her eyes and her solemn expression, damn her! Is she the soft, slender elven maiden, taught from birth that hers is the gentle and nurturing way or is there hidden within her the sleeping bloodlust of battles to fight, waiting to awaken and consume her? We brush our long blond tresses in unison and a faint smile appears on her face, mocking me it seems as I study the mystery that is before me. My hand reaches to touch hers, the coldness of her fingers contrast my own warmth as I try to seek my own answers of self from her eyes but again she says nothing, and I am angry with her for it. Why won't she help me to answer my own questions of self and worthiness that intrude upon my thoughts? Who is this girl, this maiden inside of my mirror that plagues me with so many questions without saying anything? I may never know the answers to my questions and the uncertainties that may come with searching but I will always have the maiden in the mirror to look upon me with more questions than answers. Perhaps she is wiser than I, keeping her thoughts and feelings to herself, knowing that I must find my path on my own terms.....
