A new day was here, and I was once again hunting for some game for us to eat. I caught a boar, and I took some ribs from it, cooking it on a fire. I cutted the ribs to separate bones and served it to others. Lord Tindir hesitated at first. ”No more sausages, please”, he said. ”Sausages? I suppose they taste like that”, I said. I knew that some Men used boar for sausages, so I understood why he would say so. Himwen on the other hand was not as picky, but I already expected so.
Parnard took an enormous chunk of meat since the others did not seem too hungry and ate it perhaps a little messy way. At least he seemed to like my cooking. But I would still have rather hunted some venison instead. We finished the meal and went on to explore – with the very colourful and very old map which Parnard had taken from the rangers in Enedwaith.
We fought out way to a watchtower which was now occupied by the villainous dunlendings. Then Veryacano asked someone to climb into the watchtower and to draw a quick new map, and I volunteered. I had often drawn such maps back in the days to the wandering Elves about the places they wishes to know more about. The watchtower was in terrible mess, there were spiders, dust and thick cobwebs everywhere, and I felt rather disgusted trying to push them out of the way. Eventually I whistled down to the others as I started to draw the map. I tried my do my best in a short time.
When we again departed, I realized that Parnard had wandered in a strange location, as Veryacano had told me to guard him. I had to seek him to get him move with the others, and often we lagged behind the others. I tried to remain calm with him, but inside I was slightly irritated. Eventually he stopped by at a strange cow totem surrounded by water as he wanted to read the plaque at it. The others disappeared up the opposite riverbench as he was researching. I let him read it, but eventually I tried to plead him to move again.
We arrived to a watchtower which looked like some ranger masonry, but it was repaired by Dunlendings in a primitive and unsightly way at the top. ”At least Parnard's map had the river”, I heard Veryacano saying, and Parnard had a very proud face on him. Well, the river ran deep, not even Elf eyes can see it all from afar if they haven't been there.
When we settled for the night, Parnard wanted to sleep outside and talked about the stars. I looked up and smiled, and felt like a moment to rest and look upon them was earned indeed. So I laid myself down and fell asleep.
