Chronicles of Gwenbur: Entry 2

Gwenbur opens her diary. She dips her quill into the ink and starts writing.

Much has happened since I last written. I am no longer a Sperewigend in the Riders. I handed in my resignation, seeking a slightly different path in life. I wish to still fight the shadow, however I feel I am of more use in the town of Bree defending the innocent. I am no soldier, I am just a person wishing to help those in need. I shall miss my friends in the eored, but they have my love and support. They will always be in my thoughts.

Gwenbur looks up from her writing, eyes narrowing in thought. After a short while she dips her quill into the ink again.

Rionir, a friend who is like a brother to me, suggested I join him in The Defenders of the Free People. Their aim is to protect all Free Peoples from any harm. I know their captain, Lord Isilorbor Ventris. I hope that I shall be accepted within their ranks, for I also share their ethics. I wish to help all I can.

She stops and looks at the silver Elvish ring upon her third finger on the left hand. Gwenbur smiles broadly.

Such a large milestone has occured in my life. My dear Mirkwood friend, Telfaras, has proposed marriage to me. We have been friends for a while, but did make our feelings known to one another eventually. From the moment I met him in Celondim, from the moment I looked into those emerald eyes, my heart leapt with joy and I felt something I have never felt for anyone else before. I just knew from then on that my heart belonged to him. It seems to be folly to others, but this is how I truely feel. I am to wed him very soon. I hope our closest friends can be present.

Gwenbur dips her quill again, the smile disappearing.

I know the complications of a union between Elf and Man. I know one day, I shall perish and Far will be left to grieve. I have spoken about this. Far told me that he would rather spend my life with me and mourn, than to have spent the rest of his eternal life wandering alone. I shall trust his words, yet I still feel some meloncholy. It is such a complicated situation. Some people will not approve, but quite frankly I care not.

Her smile returns.

My beloved desires his Tur Andarne to perform the ceremony. I would be delighted for him to do so. Hopefully, I shall be able to meet with Far's superior prior to the marriage. I am sure he too wishes to meet the woman that one of his finest rangers wishes to make his. There is so much planning to do in such a short time. I hope the day goes smoothly.

Gwenbur waits for the ink to dry then closes the diary shut gently. She places it into her bag. She takes one more look at her betrothal ring happily.
