Memoir the First, Troubles by the Dozen

It seems nothing will ever go right, without backlash. I have been too busy dealing with the lowest of folks, dangerous strangers, and trying to push my own status out of the equation, to remain focused on the cause.

One of the biggest stumbling blocks thus far has been my own heart.. It seems too many people want it, and I've done my best to let people down easy, because.. Well.. I'm not sure how long I'll survive.. Don't want people carrying that burden. I tried for Cyliad, thought things were going well, and then.. well he isn't exactly as honest as I thought he was. Thilech, lied to me about his age right off the bat.. He was interested, but he's just a bit too.. Brutish.. I guess that I should give up on that.

Another problem has been dealing with crowds. If there is a brawl, we are expected to intervene by half the town, and expected to let it go by the other half. If we put someone in prison, half the town thinks they are innocent and demands their release, the other half thinks they are guilty and demands they are decapitated. If they'd simply trust us to make the right decision, things would go much smoother. At the very least, they step in when things get too dangerous, and actually help the watch.. Usually.

Over the past few weeks I have taken a blade in the arm, a dart in the neck, nearly been clubbed to death, had my horse killed, witnessed a dead child in an alley, arrested a dozen people, watched over a hostage negotiation, had my eyes turn yellow from poisoning, had to tolerate insults from all directions, and I have dealt with four brawls... But at the very least, I was finally able to get rid of one of our issues. Cae, is finally gone.
