Dema had spent many days in the north farthing, the inn on the hill that smelt of sheep had provided her with quite a few Mathoms to find but Dema was now wondering how many there were elsewhere in the Shire.
The strange lonely Hobbit who spent almost all day and night in the Inn was still sat by the fire as usual. Dema had sat and watched many Hobbits but this one seemed to be different from the rest, she was not jolly or happy and kept herself to herself rather than finding other Hobbits to talk to and go to parties with. She probably just needed to get out a bit more and do some Mathom hunting like Dema did, helping folk always made Dema happy.
The grumpy Hobbit who usually sat out on the wall near the stables who would often throw things at Dema was also there. He was so grumpy that even Mathom hunting would probably not cheer him up and Dema doubted that he would ever try and help other folk.
Dema had also come across the strange elderly Hobbit who seemed to spend most of her time collecting bits of plants. Dema had wanted to see what she was up to but she had heard that she had turned some of the Hobbit children into Toads and Dema did not want that.
Dema began to realise that there was something very odd about north farthing Hobbits, so she decided that she was better off heading off somewhere else.
She had seen lots of Hobbits in Michel Delving a few days earlier at the market and these Hobbits seemed much happier and jolly and did not throw things at people or mope about. She was also sure that she had seen big poet Hobbit there too. So Dema headed off into the woods towards the big road that led to Michel Delving.

They are all odd up North Farthing way.
