A letter lies on the table in the kinhouse...
To Lord Elrond, Lady Elisbeth, and others of The Warband,
You may be wondering, or it may have escaped your mind, of what I hesitated to say at the most recent kin meeting. Well, I shall explain it to you now. My brother Nernulas and his friend Halrodh have made visit to Imladirs, as Tahjun, Aewiel and Faorie will know. They came to escort me back home to Mirkwood, as Nernulas fears for my safety as he often does. Yes, Mirkwood, for it is no longer green, nor great. Orcs. My home is overrun by orcs, and whilst Nernulas and the rest of the guard try and defend it, they clearly have not been able to hold them off.
I told Halrodh I should never return to Mirkwood with him nor my brother, however I shall return, though not by their side. I spoke with Faorie and Aewiel after this event, and after hearing their words I have decided to return to my home alone. They both offered to go with me, however I did not have the heart to refuse their company. I must go alone.
Perhaps it is folly. Perhaps I shall be slew in my home of some distant land, but what is the use in being able to protect those far from my homeland, and not be able to protect my own kin - my friends… my brother. I considered asking the Warband for help, but how could I do such a thing? There are dangers even now in the Trollshaws, and is the role of the Warband not to protect Imladris?
Farewell. I do not know if any of you shall see me again. I make haste to depart while I can and shall have already gone by the time you read this letter. Forgive me for leaving such a thing… I admit I am cowardly to explain all of this in person. I just would like you all to know how grateful I am that you accepted me as part of the Warband of Imladris.
Do not worry yourselves of Nernulas and Halrodh, for I have also sent them a letter of explanation. They shall no longer be a threat.
