A new life at The Plough & Stars

Naima Longfurrow was born and raised in Oatbarton. Even from an early age she was popular, everyone wanted to be her friend and she was always invited to birthday parties. Her childhood, like most Hobbit children, was spent outside playing in the fields and orchards around the village.

A favourite game was to see how far they could goad each other to walk up the road that ran north towards the bounds. The smaller children refused to go anywhere near the hill, some of the braver older children managed to approach the top of the hill before their nerves got the better of them. Then it was Naimas turn and not only did she reach the top and touch the stones that marked the boundary of the shire but she then, with a quick look back at the assembled crowd of children below, stepped over the bounds and performed a little dance. In an instant she was made infamous amongst the children and received much praise and pats on the back when she returned.

Hobbits find it very hard not to pass on gossip and Hobbit children are worse still so it took no time at all before her exploits reached the ears of her farther and the local Bounders. She was confined to her room with no supper but the increased reputation amongst her peers was worth it.

The years passed by, with long summers in the sun, winters spent building Snowhobbits and Snowgoblins and lots of parties and festivals. Then just before her coming of age she was called into the parlour by her parents and told that she would be leaving soon to go and stay with Uncle Tubwort in Brokenborings. Although he was not truly related directly his family tree and the Longfurrow family tree did cross paths a few generations back and so he was considered family.

As the owner of a large Inn he was in need of some help running it. So Naima’s time in Oatbarton drew to an end but rather than feeling sad about leaving her friends behind she was excited to be travelling to a different part of the Shire.

The Plough and Stars

The Plough and Stars sits high up above the village of Brokenborings. Its regulars mainly consist of either sheep farmers bringing their flocks to the Greenfields or workers at the Quarry in Scary. Run by Halson Tubwort it has a number of waiters, a cook, a cleaner and a handful of other part-time employees who help run things. Halson attends to serving the customers which generally consists of pouring the ale and catching up on the latest gossip.

All the meals are home-cooked in new purpose built oven at the front of the Inn and due to the number of sheep farmers it is no surprise that some of the best Lamb in the Shire is served at The Plough and Stars.

With spring arriving The Plough and Stars is getting busier and busier and due to the number of farmers travelling to the Northfarthing Halson invested in the excavation of a new tunnel containing several new rooms that he rents out. These new rooms are rented on a nightly basis but there is a small number of long term residents at The Plough.

These long term residents generally have the original slightly larger rooms at the front of the Inn so they enjoy spectacular views across the village. The residents of the original rooms now also enjoy the added maid service with breakfast delivered to the room, complete with fresh bacon and sausages delivered from Budgeford daily.
