Freezing Cold
Submitted by Lhasbelin on November 14th, 2009
One winter I received an errand to ride up into the Misty Mountains to deliver a set of books to a warden camped up in the High Pass. I think he was feeling lonely and wanted something to read, or that's what I thought he sounded like in the letter he'd sent by bird to Imladris in late September. I took with me some fresh berry-pies to cheer him up. I think he's a distant cousin, so it'd be only proper to show some extra consideration.
However, the weather turned bad on the second night and I got completely lost. With howling wolves on my heels I raced through the snowstorms towards a flickering beacon of light I'd spotted in the distance. I had to throw away all my sweet sweet berry-pies to distract the ravenous beasts, but in the end I made it to a small dwarven outpost up in the High Pass. The inhabitants gave me shelter for the night, and told me that the warden I was looking for had already gone down south for the winter.
So much for my journey up to the mountains, but at least the dwarves were happy to take my package of books. They said they'd already run out of leaves, whatever that meant.
