Lendes looked out the bedroom window, the night was falling and everything was calm. She sat with Lendil in her arms, and smiled gently down at him.
Isilorbor and she had just arrived home from Angmar, her first battle ever. She looked towards the stairway and listened to the sound of Isilorbor in the kitchen, she looked down at Lendil yet again, and kissed his forehead, and in Gondor how she had missed him and the girls. It finally hit Lendes that it was what Isilorbor went through every time he got called to arms. She swallowed hard and couldn’t help but to feel quality for the hard times she had given Isilorbor when he gave her the news he had to go yet again.
She rocked Lendil caringly in her arms and started to hum a lullaby she used to sing for Lessel and Lenwenn when they where little. Isilorbor made his way up the stairs, carrying to large mugs of steaming hot tea, and smiled gently seeing Lendes and Lendil. Isilorbor placed both mugs on the nightstand, and sat on the bed with Lendes and wrapped his arm around her and kissed her forehead. He seemed worn out and looked slightly tired, to Lendes at least, but that wasn’t uncommon when he had returned from a war. Lendes looked at Isilorbor and gently kissed his lips.
“He has grown so much hasn’t he?” She whispered and looked down at Lendil, feeling her eyes fill with tears, and smiled gently down at him, giggling up at his parents.
“He sure has. Almost grown out of all his cloths, perhaps we should go to Bree tomorrow and get some new for him?” Isilorbor whispered in reply, and looked at Lendes, seeing her tears.
“What’s the matter my love? Why are you crying?” Isilorbor frowned a little and squeezed Lendes tightly into him. For a man that had seen many good people lay down their life during war or to what may had claimed they life, Isilorbor never liked when Lendes was sad or cried, it was his weakness some might say, but if you ask Isilorbor himself, it was his strength, Lendes and his family! They were what kept him going at the darkest times, what made him push on when others have given up hope, they where his light in the dark.
“Nothing Love, I promise you!” Lendes smiled at Isilorbor and shook her head slowly.
“I’m just happy, happy to be home with our family!” Isilorbor exhaled, seeming to relax more and kissed Lendes forehead again.
“So am I, so am I!” Isilorbor tickled Lendil on the stomach and the boy let out a joyful laugher.
“Isil!” Lendes tried to sound serious but couldn’t help but to laugh as well.
“What?” Isilorbor looked up at her and grinned.
“I’m trying to get him to fall asleep.” Both looked at Lendil and smiled, Isilorbor kisses Lendes’ cheek.
“I thought I remembered that song you hummed. Mind if I sing along?” Isilorbor looked at Lendes with big eyes, sparkling with joy.
“Of course not, we can sing it together if you like?” Lendes smiled gently to Isilorbor. She knew how he was burdened by not being able to be around when Lessel and Lenwenn grew up, and would do anything in his power to be as big a part of Lendil up bringing as possible. Isilorbor smiled widely and cleared his throat and looked and Lendes and nodded, and they both starting singing with a calm voice, looking down at Lendil, and Lendes rocked him gently in her arms, in a smooth rhythm along with the song.
“Close your eyes, I’ll be here,
Don’t you worry Dear.
I will stay,
You drift away.
The night will fall,
And dreams will call.
Nothing will harm you,
I promise you, it’s true.
Rest in sleep, I’ll be here,
Don’t you worry Dear.
I will stay,
Night drift away.
The moon will fall,
The day will call.
Nothing can harm you,
I promise you, it’s true.
Now sleep, I’ll be here,
Don’t you worry Dear.”
As they ended the song Lendil were fast sleep in Lendes arms, and looked ever so peaceful. Isilorbor got out of the bed and gently took Lendil from Lendes arms and placed him in his bed. Lendes placed her feet on the floor sitting in the bed, starting to undo her dress to change into her night gown, and Isilorbor got behind her and kissed her neck and shoulders, slowly sliding his hands to hers, taking over untying the dress.
“Let me do that for you my love, you were ask to be careful!” Isilorbor grinned and winked at her. Lendes let out a warm laugh, not to loud so she wouldn’t wake up Lendil. It was true, she had been asked to be careful, after having been cut with a poisoned dagger back in Angmar, but the time had passed now and it was barely showing anymore.
“I don’t think she meant that careful.” Lendes grinned, as Isilorbor kissed her shoulder and lowered her dress, so she was only wearing the under dress.
“Well one can never be too careful.” He winked and found Lendes nightgown and helped her put it on.
“Go back to bed, I’ve brought two mugs of tea.” Isilorbor nodded towards the nightstand and smiled to Lendes, who nodded and crawled back into bed, pulling the bedcover over herself and Isilorbor as he sat down beside her again. Isilorbor handed her one of the mugs and took the other himself, they drank their tea in silence looking at Lendil, and sharing smiles. When they finished Lendes placed both mugs on her nightstand and cuddled up to Isilorbor, caressing his chest.
“I love you Lendes!” Lendes looked up at him and smiled.
“I love you too Isilorbor with all my heart!” They kissed deeply, closed their eyes and drifted into dreams.
