Today's the day!
My father's people, the Rangers of Esteldin, have been more welcoming than perhaps I had any right to expect. But their purposes do not seem to be for my benefit... well, at least, not in a way I would like. Perhaps my father, who Captain Halbarad speaks of with great affection, did intend for me to become a ranger's wife and helpmeet. Certainly, the other women I've spoken to here believe that. But I cannot! Not yet!
I want to see the world, I want to study the lore I had heard so much about, and I want to revenge my family on the iron crown. Amdir, I think, is sympathetic... Amdir, who comes to me sometimes and tells me of his travels to Bree and the villages there, so much larger than Stoneheight, so full of people! But he will not help me knowingly - not after my adventures in Rhunelad last month. How was I to know that the orcs were still moving south in force? I have been kept from all knowledge of the war!
Oh, even writing of it makes me more determined to escape! I asked the Captain if I may be escorted to my grandfather's farm... or where it had been, six months ago. He agreed, with escorts. Amdir and Talot are to bring me there and back. The Captain first said it was for my safety, but when questioned he acknowledged it was to ensure my return to the fortress, where I will be safe.
Well, won't he be surprised!
