Lindeledhriel’s father and elder brother were valiant knights ever following the banner of Maedhros. After the Nirnaeth Arboderiad, witnessing her mother succumb to grief and pass into the West, Lindeledhriel walked into the woods. There she remained out of the sight of Elves and Men.
The sorrow of her elder brother's rumoured loss was great in her heart, thus she cried Tears Unnumbered. Never she wished or dreamed of sailing without finding her brother, or, at worst, a sign of his passing. Each nightfall the Evening Star rekindled her hope of finding him. Thus the hope, sometimes as a weak sapling or a deep rooted birch, lived in her.
She walked bare of feet on the undergrowth, grass, fallen leaves and barren earth. She learned to talk to the trees and animals; the songs of birds and loud streams. She walked alone, tears of grief flowing down her cheeks.
Long years passed.
When at last she returned to the Elven-home, to the Elves’ surprise her both cheeks were slightly watermarked by her falling tears unnumbered. Some say that those watermarks are the physical outcome of the tears she shed, while some claim that it must be the sign of the Vala, Nienna.
